Sacramento Hit-and-Run Injures Pedestrian

Pedestrian Injured in Florin Road Hit-and-Run Accident

A hit-and-run accident injuring a pedestrian occurred in Sacramento on December 3. The collision occurred around 5:54 pm off Florin Road between Stockton Boulevard and 65th Street at the old Sears parking lot. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating to locate the driver. No information was provided on the pedestrian’s condition except that they suffered injuries in the crash.

How a Lawyer Investigates to Locate a Hit-and-Run Driver

The process of finding the fleeing driver involves several steps. First, a lawyer will try to locate and review any evidence that may be available such as surveillance videos or eyewitness reports. The lawyer will also contact law enforcement agencies for crash reports and information about previous incidents involving similar vehicles in the area. Additionally, the lawyer might even conduct his own investigation by canvassing neighborhoods and businesses nearby to see if anyone has seen or heard anything related to the pedestrian incident.

Expanding the Search if Necessary

Once all relevant evidence is collected, the lawyer will analyze it in order to narrow down possible suspects. If the police have already identified one or more potential drivers who could have committed the hit-and-run, then those individuals should be thoroughly investigated as well. This typically involves interviewing witnesses who saw the incident take place and examining any physical evidence that was left at the scene. In addition, a lawyer may use their own investigator to research potential leads or speak with individuals who may know more about the driver’s identity.

If the lawyer is able to identify the fleeing driver, then they will begin preparing a claim against them. This typically involves obtaining medical records and evaluations of the client’s injuries, as well as establishing negligence by the driver who fled the scene. After all necessary information is gathered, negotiations can begin between lawyers representing both parties in an effort to reach a settlement agreement or take legal action if necessary. Finally, if the case goes all the way to trial, then it will be up to a jury or judge to decide on compensation recovery for the accident.

Accident Compensation Through Insurance Following a Hit-and-Run

Most clients are concerned that their injuries will not recover compensation if the fleeing driver is not caught. Additionally, many fleeing drivers are not insured or have inadequate insurance to cover all the damages. Whether or not the driver is located, we assist injured clients in obtaining coverage for their medical expenses through their uninsured/underinsured coverage.

Using an Uninsured or Underinsured Driver Policy

California drivers can select an uninsured/underinsured policy when they apply for vehicle insurance. It’s a good idea to have this type of insurance since many California drivers do not have proper or only minimum coverage. If you choose this optional coverage, you and your family are covered up to the limit of your policy. An umbrella policy will cover any difference between a pedestrian’s minimum insurance coverage and medical bills.
