Fulton Avenue Accident Involves Hit-and-Run Driver

A hit-and-run happened in a commercial area of Sacramento on August 24 that injured a pedestrian. The accident occurred along Fulton Avenue between Cottage Way and La Mesa Way around 12:26 p.m. No information was provided on the extent of injuries to the pedestrian. However, the accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

What Is the Reason for Increasing Hit-and-Runs?

Accidents caused by hit-and-run drivers can be caused by a number of factors. Some of the most common are as follows:

  • This vehicle operator does not have a valid driving license and is afraid of being caught by the police, or they are driving a stolen car.
  • The car registration has not been kept up-to-date or documentation is missing.
  • When the accident occurs, panic takes over and the driver flees the scene. Many drivers that flee the scene for this reason contact the police later.
  • The driver has been drinking or using drugs and doesn’t want to be placed under arrest because they know they could face jail time and a heavy fine.
  • The driver has outstanding warrants or unpaid tickets against them.
  • The driver has drugs, paraphernalia or weapons in the vehicle.

Compensation for Hit-and-Run Accidents

Pedestrians injured in a hit-and-run are often worried that they won’t be able to recover compensation for their injuries if the fleeing driver is not apprehended. Additionally, many fleeing drivers do not have adequate insurance to cover all damages, and some do not even have insurance at all. Additionally, they do not have the income to deal with a lawsuit. Whether or not the driver is located, we can help our injured clients pay for their medical care by using their uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

The Use of an Uninsured/Underinsured Policy

Drivers can purchase uninsured/underinsured coverage when applying for California car insurance. Having this type of insurance is a good idea because many California drivers don’t have proper insurance or only have the minimum coverage. All injuries you and your family sustain are covered up to the policy limit. Umbrella insurance covers the gap between minimal coverage and actual medical costs following an accident, so it can be a good idea to take this add-on to cover all contingencies.

Searching for a Hit-and-Run Driver

The diligent investigations of our firm and our experienced accident attorneys have helped locate many fleeing drivers over the past few decades. Bystanders who witnessed the hit-and-run accident are a useful resource in identifying a hit-and-run driver and the vehicle.

In today’s world, everyone seems to have a cell phone, and some even record a hit-and-run accident as it happens or recognize the driver. The color of the car, description of the driver, license plate number, even part of it, can help us determine the vehicle and lead to the driver. As well as checking area surveillance cameras, re-enacting the accident and using other techniques, we do our best to locate the fleeing driver.
