Accident at 6th Parkway Intersection Kills Driver in Two-Vehicle Accident

A big rig collision with a motor vehicle in Sacramento resulted in the death of one person on July 28. The accident happened at the Sixth Parkway intersection with Florin Road around 5:15 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the vehicle occupant died in the accident. According to a report by the police, the tractor-trailer and a Toyota were going east along Florin Road when the semi made a U-turn at that intersection.

Toyota Driver Strikes Semi as it is Making a U-Turn at Intersection

The motor vehicle ran into the rear of the semi, and the Toyota driver died as a result of the big rig collision. The Toyota driver was not using seat restraints at the time of the accident. The semi driver was unharmed in the collision. The intersection was blocked as an investigation was conducted to determine how the crash occurred.

U-Turns and the Risk of a Big Rig Collision

Most trucking companies do not allow their drivers to make U-turns. In some companies, it can cause the driver to be fired because of the dangers involved that could lead to a big rig collision. Alternatives can include going around the block, taking the next exit, or turning left to enter a parking lot and then exiting right. Problems associated with big rigs making a U-turn include:

  • It can take a long time for a trucker in a big rig to make a right turn. Making a U-turn takes a lot longer, and while there may be no other traffic in sight as the trucker begins their turn, those extra seconds could end up causing a collision with oncoming cars.
  • The driver can end up getting trapped if the light changes while they are making the U-turn.
  • Roads are generally not wide enough to allow a trucker to make a clean U-turn without jockeying around to do it, which can cause a big rig collision.
  • Once the trucker completes a U-turn, they require time to build up speed to get out of the way of other vehicles.
  • If the driver of a big rig has to make a U-turn, they need a spotter along to help them do it safely.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim After the Loss of a Loved One

Immediate family members of someone who died in an accident caused by someone’s negligence have the right to file a wrongful death claim to recover damages. Although their grief isn’t eased by such an action, it can help them move forward without financial stress and give them a sense of justice that the negligent person is being held responsible. Our law firm has successfully handled many of these claims over the years. It is especially important to us because no family should have to suffer this type of loss.
