Roseville Car Crash Injury

Roseville Car Crash Injury – A Roseville car crash injury mirrors those found throughout the country. Car crashes are a primary source of injury in the United States. Over two and a half million injuries are reported every year. There is a wide diversity between the severity of the injuries. Some are minor and heal with time and rest. Others are serious and require varying degrees of medical attention. About 200,000 individuals are hospitalized, and more intense treatment is needed. Let’s take a look at the different injury types, what they are and how they are treated.

Head Trauma in a Roseville Car Crash Injury

The degree of head trauma depends on the type and ranges from lacerations to concussions to other brain injuries:

  • Scalp lacerations: Lacerations are generally caused by contact with sharp objects within a vehicle. Such an injury often requires medical treatment to close the wound. While not usually a serious injury in and of itself, a cut on the scalp tends to bleed profusely, frightening the individual.
  • Concussion: A concussion is due to the head coming in contact with immovable objects such as the steering wheel, dashboard or windows, among other things. Minor concussions heal with time. A more severe concussion takes longer to recover, and in some cases, deficits in cognition remain. Symptoms include a headache, nausea, vomiting and memory loss.
  • Brain Trauma: Other forms of brain trauma beyond a concussion are much more serious. For example, if people strike their head, it may cause blood to build up on the surface of their brain. Such a car crash injury often requires surgery to remove the pressure the blood is exerting. If this is not done, the person may die.

Back Injuries in an Automobile Accident

Back injuries are common and extend from the neck to the lower part of the spine. Such damages can have long-term ramifications such as disability. They include:

  • Cervical Strain and Sprain: This is commonly referred to as whiplash, and its symptoms can be delayed up to seven days after an accident happens. Cervical strain and sprain usually cause headaches, pain in the neck muscles, nausea and an inability to turn the neck without pain. While it was treated with immobilization in the past, current modes of care involve an application of cold and hot compresses and physical therapy. Usually, ice is used on and off for the first 24 to 48 hours followed by heat, often in the form of heating pads or wraps. Over-the-counter analgesics such as Tylenol are usually recommended for pain.
  • Disc Herniation: This occurs when a disc that provides a cushion between vertebrae slips out of place, allowing the juxtaposing vertebrae to compress the nerves that pass through. It can happen anywhere along the spine but is most common in the lower segments. This type of car crash injury is painful and without proper attention may cause further damage. Symptoms usually involve pain with movement, muscle weakness and numbness and tingling in the extremities. This injury may require surgery or other less invasive treatments such as nerve block to remedy the situation.

Abdominal and Chest Trauma

While seat restraints keep us safe in a car crash, sometimes the force of the body against the harnesses can cause injury to the chest and the abdomen. This can result in significant damage to the heart, ribs, lungs and abdominal organs. Treatment must be rendered as soon as possible before catastrophic results such as hemorrhage occur.

Burns in a Car Crash Injury

If a fire erupts after a car accident, the occupants of the vehicle can be burned. Such injuries can require treatments such as steps taken to prevent infection of the burned area or surgical procedures. In many cases, burns inflict long hospital stays and extended periods of rehabilitation.

Facial Scars

Disfiguring scars often result after a car accident due to injuries caused by flying glass or sharp objects within the car’s interior. Cosmetic surgery may be needed to remove the scar, if possible. Not only does a disfiguring scar cause physical harm but emotional and psychological issues as well.

Knee Injury in a Car Crash

Due to the placement of the knees while driving, injury to this joint happens due to impact with the dash. Some newer vehicles have knee airbags to prevent extensive injury. Since the knee bears a large portion of the body’s weight during movement, damage to this joint can have lifelong repercussions. Surgery is often needed to treat a knee injury.

How a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help

When you are hurt in a car crash, you need an experienced injury lawyer to help you get the compensation you deserve. Your attorney will be able to investigate the accident, review police and medical records and talk to witnesses. He or she will also be able to use the testimony of experts to put together a solid case against the negligent party. Going it alone when you are injured can result in lower compensation and the burden of dealing with insurers.
