One Person Suffers Major Injury in Roadside Accident

Three people were injured in a roadside accident along Elk Grove Florin Road in Sacramento County on June 29. The roadside accident occurred at about 10 p.m. as a vigil was being conducted. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that one car hit another that had slowed to watch the vigil. The driver hit the slowed vehicle in the rear and pushed it into a group of people.

Three People Suffer Injuries

All three people in the group were injured in the roadside accident. Authorities stated that one of the people involved in the roadside accident suffered major injuries, although they said they were not critical and should survive. The person was transported to a local hospital. The other two individuals involved in the incident suffered injuries but were not transported to a medical facility. An investigation into the accident is still pending.

Causes of a Roadside Accident

From a good Samaritan helping another motorist to change a tire to someone walking around their vehicle, roadside accidents do happen. The most common cause of such an accident is another driver who is not focusing on the road ahead but on what is happening. Such an accident often occurs when someone is injured or stopped for a traffic infraction.

In urban areas, it is also common for a driver to run up onto the sidewalk where a bus stop is located. In each instance, the common cause is driver distraction. Taking one’s eyes off the road can easily cause a collision. Letting your distracted visual focus change the path the vehicle is on by affecting steering is negligent behavior. In short, steering often follows what one is looking at.

Why Is Distracted Driving Common?

Distracted driving is not new, but it has climbed to the number one spot where accidents are concerned, beating out drunk driving. One problem is the harried life we all live and the level of multitasking we are forced into. It is common to see someone talking on a cell phone, adjusting the radio and grabbing a bite to eat all at the same time while driving. Some people feel that if they multitask even while driving, they will accomplish more. While common, this type of thinking can lead to accidents. Commercial drivers are also distracted at times, given the long hours on the road.

What an Attorney Can Do for You

After a roadside accident, chances are you are injured both physically and financially as you struggle to pay medical bills and overcome lost wages. It is important that you receive the compensation you deserve. It is a proven fact that if you have an attorney on your side, the outcome of your case will improve.

How to Investigate a Roadside Accident

Roadside accidents usually happen due to driver error. However, it is essential that this negligence be proven in order for you to file a successful claim or take the incident to court. Our law firm sends investigators to the scene of the accident as soon as possible before evidence is removed or destroyed.

They use accident reconstruction techniques to see vehicle positioning. This tells them how the roadside accident happened. In addition, they obtain video footage of the accident from nearby businesses and traffic lights. Our investigators speak to witnesses and review the police reports for accuracy. After all the information is compiled, it is given to our lawyers who use it to build a strong case for our client.
