Redding Hit-and-Run Sends One Person to the Hospital

On Thursday, February 25, 2021, a Redding hit-and-run car accident sent one person to the hospital. The Redding Police Department (RPD) reports the incident occurred in the late afternoon and involved six separate vehicles, and happened on a busy city road. In addition to the hospitalized individual, several others were reported to have suffered minor injuries. RPD is still searching for the missing driver and vehicle.

Crash Details

According to police, the accident happened just prior to 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Quartz Hill Road and North Market Street. Based on preliminary investigations, police believe that a white pickup truck crashed into the rear-end of a vehicle that was stopped on Quartz Hill and waiting for a red light. The crash pushed the second vehicle into the intersection, leading to a chain-reaction crash that ultimately involved four more vehicles.

After the crash, the pickup truck drove away from the scene. Further details about the complicated accident have not been released.

Response

RPD officers rushed to the scene after the crash was reported and discovered that the pickup truck was missing. Medical responders indicated that everyone involved in the collision suffered either minor injuries or none at all except for one individual who reported that they were in serious pain. This individual was driven to a local hospital via ambulance, and their condition remains unreported.

Investigation of Redding Hit-and-Run

RPD is actively investigating the accident and have asked for public help. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information regarding the whereabouts or identity of the missing driver or vehicle is encouraged to reach out to RPD at (530) 225-4200. Officers indicated that the pickup truck would likely have significant damage to its front end and may have an attached lumber rack as well as a bed full of construction materials.

Hit-and-Runs and Recovering Compensation

After a car accident, people who’ve suffered injuries can often obtain compensation to pay for their medical bills and other expenses by filing a personal injury claim against negligent drivers and/or other at-fault parties. However, in the case of a hit-and-run, the responsible driver may never be found, which often causes survivors to worry about how they’ll afford medical care or make up for lost income.

In many cases, it is still possible to obtain compensation for these damages by going through your own insurance company. Many policies include “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” which can be used to provide payments when negligent drivers are unable to pay for the damages they’ve caused and can also be used for hit-and-runs accidents.

However, this coverage is optional in CA, and the amount of compensation available to you depends on your specific policy. Furthermore, insurance companies may offer less payment than you deserve. For these reasons, it’s important to have support and advice from an expert Redding personal injury lawyer before dealing with your insurer.
