SR 99 Rear-End Crash Occurs at Off-Ramp

A rear-end crash causing minor trauma was reported north of Natomas on May 7, causing one of the pickups involved to be totaled. The crash took place along northbound State Route 99 at the West Riego Road off-ramp around 5:30 p.m. The rear-end collision occurred between two pickups.

Collision With Overpass Post Occurs Due to Rear-End Crash

California Highway Patrol officers who arrived at the scene said the vehicles hit very hard, which pushed one of the pickups into a post under the overpass. A tow was required to remove one of the light trucks, which had sustained major front-end damage. The CHP Traffic division is investigating the accident to find out how it occurred and to assign fault. Information was not provided on whether the injured party/parties received treatment at the scene or were taken to a hospital for additional evaluation.

Negligence That Results in a Rear-End Crash

Rear-end collisions are some of the most common types of car accidents. Negligence behind the wheel is usually to blame for these crashes, as it is often a driver’s failure to properly maintain control of their vehicle that causes them to collide with another motorist in front of them. The following are some examples of negligence that can lead to a rear-end crash:

  • Failing to stop in time due to excessive speed or distracted driving
  • Not being aware of other vehicles around you
  • Following too closely (tailgating)
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Holding the At-Fault Party Liable for Damages

If any of these examples apply and someone is injured, the negligent driver may be liable for the accident. It is crucial to consult with an experienced attorney to determine if you have a valid negligence claim after a rear-end collision. Doing so can help ensure you receive the compensation you need and deserve following a crash caused by another driver’s negligence.

What Can I Recover by Filing a Personal Injury Claim?

In personal injury claims, the injured party may be eligible to recover damages for losses from the accident and resulting injuries. Such recoverable damages can include the following:

  • Medical expenses, including hospital stays and medical procedures such as surgery or physical therapy;
  • Lost wages from being unable to work due to the injury;
  • Pain and suffering caused by emotional distress related to an injury;
  • Permanent disability resulting from the accident;
  • Loss of consortium or companionship if a spouse is incapacitated.

Obtaining Support From an Injury Accident Lawyer

A skilled lawyer can help determine what type of damages are available for a particular claim and the most effective way to pursue them. The amount of compensation awarded may also vary depending on the severity of the injury, whether it resulted in long-term disability or impairment and any other economic losses suffered by the injured party.
