Two Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash on Auburn Blvd On-Ramp to SR-51 in North Sacramento

Early Monday morning, February 16, 2026, a four-vehicle crash on Auburn Blvd on-ramp to State Route 51 in North Sacramento, at the transition to westbound Interstate 80. The California Highway Patrol reported the crash at approximately 3:08 a.m.

Initial investigations suggest that significant flooding on the entrance ramp led to hazardous driving conditions, causing multiple vehicles to collide. A blue Dodge Ram pickup, a blue Toyota 4Runner, and at least two other vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction crash. Authorities believe vehicles were forced to stop abruptly due to standing water, resulting in the multi-car pileup.

The Sacramento Fire Department transported two injured individuals to Mercy San Juan Medical Center. One patient reported leg pain, and another complained of chest pain. The total number of people evaluated at the scene has not yet been released.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Driver Safety Tips for Flooded Roadways

Flooded roads can create dangerous and unpredictable driving conditions. Motorists can reduce their risk by following these safety tips:

  • Never drive through standing water if the depth is unknown
  • Reduce speed during heavy rain and early morning hours when visibility is limited
  • Allow extra stopping distance, as wet roads reduce traction
  • Avoid sudden braking or lane changes on slick surfaces
  • Watch for road closure signs and hazard warnings
  • If water covers the roadway, turn around and find an alternate route

Even shallow flooding can cause vehicles to hydroplane or stall, increasing the risk of multi-vehicle crashes.
