Rancho Cordova Boy Hurt in Hit and Run

I’m Ed Smith, a Rancho Cordova personal injury lawyer. An 11-year-old Rancho Cordova boy was left with serious injuries on Tuesday after being hit by a reckless driver who fled the scene. The errant driver was later apprehended by investigators.

My deepest sympathies go out to the injured boy and his family during this difficult time, as well as prayers for his quick and full recovery.

What Happened?

An 11-year-old boy was riding his electric scooter when he was struck by a motor vehicle driven by a 19-year-old. The driver then abandoned his car after the collision and fled on foot. The hit and run accident occurred in the vicinity of Croetto Way and Mills Park Drive in Rancho Cordova in the early afternoon, around 1:20 p.m. The driver was then arrested that evening and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

Injury Accident

Tragically, the young boy suffered traumatic injuries as a result of the collision. Reports indicate that a good Samaritan and witness to the accident provided first aid and CPR to the boy while they waited for paramedics to arrive. The boy was transported to a local hospital with injuries requiring surgery.

Children and young people can be especially vulnerable in an auto accident. Common injuries to young cyclists and pedestrians involved in accidents with motor vehicles include:

Filing a Personal Injury Claim after a Hit and Run

If you or your loved one is injured in an auto accident, you may need to file a claim to recover damages. The high cost of medical bills, lost income from missing work, and the pain and suffering inflicted on the injured party and their family can quickly become overwhelming. If you find yourself in such a situation, please consider contacting an experienced accident lawyer to help you with your case. Between filing paper work, collecting evidence, and dealing with insurance adjusters, it can be difficult to find the time to heal- let your injury lawyer handle your case while you focus on your health and family.

In this case, the hit and run driver was apprehended and can be named as a defendant and be held financially responsible for the damages he caused. Drivers in California are mandated to carry minimum insurance policies of $15,000/$30,000 liability coverage.

Uninsured and Under Insured Motorist Coverage

Sometimes, hit and run drivers escape being held accountable. Without the identity of the driver, an injured party may have a hard time recovering damages. Fortunately, most insurance companies offer a policy rider known as Uninsured or Under Insured Motorist Coverage (UM/UIM). In the event that you cannot locate the hit and run driver, or in cases when the damages exceed the defendant’s insurance policy limits, UM/UIM coverage can prove vital in your recovery.
