Two-Vehicle Crash on Blaker Road Involves Propane Tanker

An injury accident involving a propane tanker was reported near Modesto on December 9. The collision occurred on north Blaker Road and West Main Street near Hatch, according to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Crews with the fire department arrived at the scene to assess injuries and determine if a propane spill had occurred.

Investigation Into Cause of Propane Tanker Accident

No signs of a leak were discovered in the tanker truck. The other vehicle involved in the crash was an Infiniti, which sustained a broken front axle. An occupant in the car had a complaint of back pain as a result of the injury accident. Information was not available on whether the patient was taken to a hospital or received treatment at the scene. An investigation underway by the CHP will determine the fault in the collision and how it happened.

Propane Tanker Truck Accidents

Due to their large size and hazardous cargo, propane tanker trucks can cause severe injuries and even death in an accident. Medical bills and other losses suffered as a result of the negligence of a tanker truck driver can be recouped through compensation claims. Trucking companies are responsible if drivers are not properly scheduled or if necessary maintenance is not performed on trucks.

Investigations of Tanker Truck Accidents

If you or a member of your family has been involved in a propane tanker truck accident, a lawyer who is familiar with these types of crashes can assist you in gathering evidence to support your claim. We dispatch investigators to the accident site as soon as possible in order to collect evidence. To demonstrate fault by the other driver, evidence is collected from traffic cameras, talking to witnesses, examining the background of the driver and company and retracing the collision’s path through accident reconstruction.

Tanker Truck Collisions Can Be Deadly

Among the most dangerous accidents are collisions with tanker trucks. As the liquids and gasses carried by these vessels will often be highly flammable and hazardous, a spill could result in the evacuation of populated areas in order to prevent a fire or explosion. In November 2020, a tanker truck accident in Northern California caused a propane spill that forced 200 people to evacuate. There are many dangers associated with driving a tanker truck, including:

  • Partial filling: Heavy liquids may slosh around in a partially filled tank. In the event of a rollover caused by a partially filled tank, nearby passenger vehicles may be impacted.
  • Jackknife accidents: Tanker trucks can jackknife if they are pulling tanks instead of being one unit. Jackknifing occurs when the tractor pulling the section moves faster than the tank being pulled. Tanker trucks can roll over due to jackknife accidents because the liquid inside can slosh and become unbalanced.
  • A tanker truck hauls flammable liquids such as propane, chemicals, oils and other dangerous materials. Fires, explosions, and chemical burns may result from accidental spills.
