Preventing Rancho Murieta Car Accidents

Preventing Rancho Murieta Car Accidents

Preventing Rancho Murieta Car Accidents – Rancho Murieta is a quaint gated community in Sacramento County located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, about 25 miles east of Sacramento. With a population of nearly 5,500 at the 2010 census, the city is continuously growing.

Residents are often seen out and about in their golf carts enjoying a game of golf, picking up their children from the bus stop or taking in the beauty of the many lakes and parks in the area. It’s also not uncommon to see wildlife such as turkeys, deer, or coyotes in the area.

Traffic Accidents in Rancho Murieta

While residents are relishing the peaceful neighborhoods, not even a small town like Rancho Murieta can prevent traffic accidents from occurring. Just one negligent driver can cause serious injuries to those in the area, primarily because the community is located near a highly traveled highway.

Jackson Road: Dangerous Highway

Preventing Car Accidents in Rancho Murieta

Jackson Road is one of the most dangerous highways in California and runs through Rancho Murieta. Every year, several serious accidents with fatalities occur on the narrow two-lane road due to excessive speeding, distracted driving, driving under the influence, and driving in bad weather.

Some notable car accidents on or near Jackson Road include:

  • March 2018 – Man Injured in Jackson Road Car Crash
  • March 2018 – Woman Hurt in Two-Car Crash at North Gate and Jackson Road
  • May 2018 – Jackson Road Snarled Traffic after Crash
  • June 2018 – Pickup Rolls on Jackson Road
  • July 2018 – Two Injured in Accident at South Gate near Jackson Road

An Effort to Reduce Speed Limit on Jackson Road

Rancho Murieta residents have made an effort to slow down traffic on Jackson Road. Earlier this year, the Rancho Murieta Association board voted unanimously to request state and city officials to lower the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph as it passes through Rancho Murieta. The reduced speed limit would affect about a 2.6 mile stretch of road between Lone Pine Drive and Van Vleck Road. However, the state Department of Transportation rejected the request, citing several reasons including a California Vehicle Code, which sets the speed limit for a two-lane undivided highway at 55 mph.

Preventing Traffic Accidents

Traffic accidents can be avoided if drivers follow the basic rules of the road and obey all traffic laws. Below are five driving tips that could help prevent a car accident:

  • Be courteous – Share the road and treat other drivers with respect.
  • Don’t tailgate – Always leave about three seconds of cushion between you and the car in front of you to avoid a rear-end accident.
  • Pull slowly into traffic – When approaching a busy intersection or a blind spot, slow down and look in both directions at least twice before continuing.
  • Scan ahead 12 seconds – Concentrate on the area you will be approaching in 12 seconds for any possible danger.
  • Watch for red-light runners –Wait three seconds and look both ways before entering an intersection on a green light to avoid T-boning someone who is trying to speed through a yellow light.
