Police Response to Bicycle Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Bicycle Accident Lawyer. After suffering minor injuries and the loss of his bicycle after an accident, a Lincoln boy has his wheels back thanks to a local police officer.

What Happened?

A young boy from Lincoln was hit by a slow-moving vehicle near Nicholas Road and O Street during morning commuter traffic as he was headed to school. The low speed collision caused damage to the bicycle’s rear wheel and reportedly left the boy with minor injuries. Thankfully, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District’s Captain Davis was on his way to work and was able to quickly respond to the accident scene, providing aid to the boy.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

The Lincoln Police Department Community Services Officer Tyler also responded to the scene. After an accident, law enforcement officials may need to tow or impound damaged vehicles, but they don’t often repair them. However, Officer Tyler took his oath to “Serve and Protect” a step further after bringing the damaged bicycle back to his station where he used parts from another bike to make the necessary repairs. The officer returned the bike to the family of the boy, noting that repairing the bike should be the least of the family’s concerns.

We wish the boy a speedy recovery and would like to commend the admirable actions of Sacramento’s public servants.

Common Injuries Sustained in Bicycle Accidents

Most injuries from bicycle riding occur with male riders and typically involve high speeds. Collisions with motor vehicles account for the majority of serious injuries and fatalities, although superficial injuries and broken bones are common in all types of accidents involving bicycles. Head injuries are responsible for the most deaths and permanent disabilities resulting from bicycle accidents- remember to wear an approved helmet when you ride. It is also important that the helmet fit correctly and be worn as set forth by the manufacturer.
