Pittsburg Ca Car Accident

Pittsburg Car Accident Kills Two People – On Saturday, September 15, 2018, 58-year old Kimberly Seng and 63-year old Rasmey Seng were killed after two vehicles collided in Pittsburg. The incident occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. that evening on Railroad Avenue near Alturas Avenue, according to police. The southbound lanes of Railroad Avenue were closed for several hours due to a collision investigation. The accident appears to have been caused by one vehicle that side-swiped another car while attempting to pass it. It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to this accident.

I would like to take this time to extend my condolences to the family and friends that are impacted by this tragedy.

Pittsburg Ca Car Accident Details

The preliminary investigation shows that the two cars, one Lexus and one Toyota, were both driving in the southbound direction of Railroad Avenue. The Toyota was traveling in the left lane, whereas the Lexus was in the right lane. According to Capt. Steve Albanese, spokesman for the Pittsburg police, the Toyota driver decided to move into the right-hand lane. The Lexus driver, who police stated was already speeding, accelerated in an attempt to pass the approaching Toyota. The pass was unsuccessful because the Lexus ended up side-swiping the Toyota.

The Lexus veered into a tree located off the right shoulder, immediately killing passenger Kimberly Seng. Paramedics had to use equipment to remove Rasmey from the vehicle. He initially survived the impact and was transported to the trauma center in Walnut Creek’s John Muir Medical Center. Unfortunately, Rasmey succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police confirmed that Rasmey and Kimberly were married.

The unidentified driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries following the accident and was reportedly cooperative with police.

Speeding-related Safety Suggestions

The difference of even just a few miles per hour can equal the difference between life and death. The faster you drive, the less time you have to react to an unexpected situation. Let’s look at some safety suggestions about speeding from THINK!:

  • The speed limit is not a target. Rather, it is a suggestion that gives drivers a better idea of the speed range that themselves and other drivers on the road will be using.
  • Rural roads often have sharp bends. Keep your speed under control and give yourself time to handle any unexpected hazardous weather or road conditions.
  • The speed limit is not always appropriate across all circumstances. If you are traveling through rain, fog, or heavy traffic, driving at the posted speed limit may be too fast.
  • Always accelerate with caution. Just accelerating from 30 mph to 40 mph raises the risk of fatality four times higher for an oncoming pedestrian.
