A man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a solo Pickup Truck Crash on Highway 50 Near Bass Lake Road in El Dorado County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
What Happened
CHP officers responded to the scene shortly after 3:25 p.m. and located a black Nissan Titan pickup truck involved in a solo-vehicle collision. Investigators reported that the truck struck a guardrail before traveling down an embankment and overturning.
Authorities confirmed that the adult male driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses told CHP that the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash and that rainy weather conditions may have been a contributing factor.
The victim’s identity will be released after next of kin notifications have been made.
Traffic Impact
The far-right lane of eastbound Highway 50 remained closed while CHP conducted its investigation. Officials stated there was no estimated time for when the lane would fully reopen.
Investigation Ongoing
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional factors contributed to the collision.
Highway Safety Reminder
Wet roadway conditions can significantly reduce traction and increase stopping distances, especially at highway speeds. Drivers are urged to slow down during rain, maintain safe following distances, ensure tires are in good condition, and always wear seat belts to reduce the risk of ejection in a crash.
