Staying Safe as a Pedestrian Near High-Speed Roads
Walking near highways like SR-99 poses serious safety risks, especially at night. Pedestrians should avoid entering lanes of traffic whenever possible and use designated overpasses, crosswalks, and sidewalks. Reflective clothing, flashlights, and awareness of oncoming vehicles are critical tools for staying visible and safe.
Drivers must also remain alert, particularly in areas near freeway ramps or service roads where pedestrian activity may be unexpected. Slowing down and scanning for movement, especially at night, can help prevent tragedies.
