Pedestrian Injured in Alleged Chico DUI Hit-and-Run

On Monday, November 4, 2019, an alleged Chico DUI hit-and-run left one person with serious injuries. The injured individual was reportedly a pedestrian. Authorities of the Chico Police Department (CPD), reported that the driver involved in the accident has been arrested on charges related to driving under the influence. Additionally, police have stated that the driver was on post-release community supervision after being arrested for a prior felony DUI.

Crash Details

The accident happened at approximately 2:06 p.m. inside of Bidwell Park. Police received a call indicated that a woman had been struck by a passing vehicle at picnic site 27 and was knocked to the ground as a result. The driver reportedly drove away directly after striking the woman. When responders arrived at the accident site, the injured woman was able to provide them with a description of both the driver and their vehicle.

Medical officials indicated that the woman suffered significant injuries, including trauma to the back of her head as well as several serious scrapes. However, the woman reportedly declined to be taken to a hospital by emergency responders. Whether or not she has since received hospital care has not been reported.

The Arrest

The driver of the vehicle, identified by CPD officers as a 30-year-old Paradise man, was located shortly after the crash and placed under arrest on two felony charges, including hit-and-run and driving while intoxicated. As of the time of reporting, the driver was in the custody of the Butte County Jail.

Head Injuries and Delayed Symptom Onset

After suffering a head injury during an auto accident, many people walk away from the crash without realizing just how serious their condition is. The force involved in car accidents means that traumatic brain injuries are common, and the symptoms of these injuries can take days, weeks, or even months to fully develop. During this time, people who leave their head injuries untreated risk suffering serious secondary injuries and/or potentially deadly injury complications.

Additionally, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as you are able to because not doing so can complicate the process of seeking compensation for the damages you’ve suffered. While your health should be your primary concern, not receiving prompt medical attention can often cause insurers and courts to doubt the seriousness of your trauma.

How to Find a Trustworthy Lawyer

If you’ve been injured in a crash, it’s likely that you are facing serious financial issues related to your accident, and finding a lawyer to defend your right to compensation is often critical. However, many people do not know how they can get in touch with an attorney who has the right skills and experience to effectively handle your case and ensure you receive the full amount of compensation you deserve from negligent parties.
