Orland Teenager Injured In Corning Crash

A 16-year-old girl from the small community of Orland received serious injuries during an auto accident that took place near Corning on Friday, January 4, 2019. The collision involved only one vehicle that authorities say was being driven by a 16-year-old boy who was also identified as a resident of Orland. The girl was reportedly hospitalized after the accident, but reports on her condition remained unavailable at the time of reporting. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers have stated that they are investigating the collision in order to find out what causal factors were involved.

Crash Details

CHP stated that the accident happened at about 8:15 a.m. The 16-year-old boy had been driving a pickup truck on Chittenden road close to the intersection of Black Butte Road in a rural area about two miles east of Corning. Reports state that the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle which veered and flipped over, partially ejecting the passenger through a window.

Police were alerted to the accident by the driver, who called CHP and reported that he had rolled his truck, saying that his girlfriend’s leg was trapped under the vehicle. Another person who called to report the crash stated that the girl had been pinned underneath the vehicle from her waist up with only her legs being visible.

Response

When emergency response personnel arrived at the crash location, they immediately got to work freeing the girl from underneath the vehicle. After she was extricated from the wreck, medics determined that she had suffered moderate to major trauma and had her airlifted to the Enloe Medical center in Chico to be given immediate medical attention. The driver of the pickup truck reportedly suffered minor injuries. Whether or not the boy received medical care was not reported.

Investigation

As CHP continues to investigate this accident, officers haven’t reported any suspected collision factors. Single vehicle accidents are common and can happen for a wide variety of reasons. These factors include driving while distracted by a mobile device, medical emergencies, defective auto parts, hazardous roads, reckless driving behaviors, and more.

Recovering from Crash Injuries

Car crashes often leave people with serious injuries. These injuries can take a long time to recover from, and the recovery process can be long as well as physically and emotionally difficult. Some people find that their lives are dramatically affected by the trauma they suffered during a crash and need to change the way they approach daily tasks, work, or other important aspects of life. While all of this is often difficult on its own, families can also suffer serious financial issues after a collision affects their household. Paying for medical expenses like surgeries, therapy, and medication as well as other costs such as household services and childcare can seem impossible. However, people who are injured during an accident can often receive payments for their injuries by filing personal injury claims. To learn more about how these claims work, speak with a Corning personal injury attorney who has ample experience dealing with cases like yours.
