Driver Hits Truck and Attempts to Run Down Workers

A hit-and-run with reported injuries occurred in Orangevale on October 18. The accident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Madison and Main avenues. The report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that two work trucks and a silver sedan were pulled over on the side of the road. The driver in the silver sedan got back into their vehicle and began to leave.

Authorities Seek Hit-and-Run Driver

At this point, the driver was reported as crashing into one of the work trucks on purpose and then tried to run down three workers. Officers with the Folsom Police Department were sent to an apartment on Folsom Ranch and notified the CHP that they needed a description of the driver. No additional information about the hit-and-run was provided. The accident is being investigated by authorities to determine exactly what happened.

Injuries and Intentional Acts

When someone is injured by a negligent motorist or other entity, they may place a claim for personal injury damages. Those damages cover the cost of all their medical expenses, wages lost from being unable to work, and reimburse the injured party for their pain and suffering. If the act was intentional and caused injuries, the person who suffered the trauma may also ask a jury to award punitive damages.

Punitive Damages

Punitive damages are not meant as compensation. They are meant to punish the wrongdoer and discourage this type of behavior. In most cases, punitive damages are much higher than compensation in a personal injury claim and are in addition. When you speak to an injury lawyer about your case, you can ask whether you can request punitive damages.

Receiving Compensation When a Hit-and-Run Driver Is Involved

Clients often ask what happens when a fleeing driver is involved in the crash and cannot be found. Despite a careful investigation, it does occur on occasion. We help our clients use their uninsured/underinsured insurance. This is offered by the state to all insurance policy purchasers. It can be used even if the injured party does not have coverage as long as someone in their family does. Premiums do not rise when it is used.

Locating the Hit-and-Run Driver

Our law office has located many drivers who fled the accident scene by collecting the evidence needed to find them. Our investigators collect evidence at the accident site such as dropped metal pieces and paint flecks to match them to a particular make and model of vehicle. In addition, they review the police report for mistakes and interview witnesses because they may be able to identify the vehicle and describe the driver.

Traffic surveillance cameras often capture an accident on film, and this evidence can be subpoenaed. Our injury lawyers take over once the evidence is gathered to construct a strong case that supports the client’s claim.
