One Dead Following Redding Bicycle Accident

On Saturday, June 13, 2020, one person was left with injuries that tragically cost him his life after a Redding bicycle accident. According to reports from the Redding Police Department (RPD), the accident occurred in the evening near Bethel Church. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedent as Sean Patrick O’Hara, a 67-year-old resident of Redding. Additionally, the cause of this accident remains under active RPD investigation.

Accident Details

RPD reported that officers were first dispatched to the accident scene around 6:30 p.m. Police received a call about a bicycle accident on College View Drive, a short distance east of Bethel Church. When police arrived, they discovered the cyclist next to his damaged bicycle on the curb off the eastbound lane of College View Drive.

When responders found the cyclist, he was alive but unresponsive. The man was placed in an ambulance by paramedics and transported to the Mercy Medical Center. Sadly, he lost his life while in hospital custody.

As officers continue investigating what could have caused this tragic accident, no suspected causes have been reported. According to RPD, there were no witnesses to the accident. Still, preliminary investigations suggest that the man had been riding his bicycle eastbound on College View before he, for unknown reasons, lost control and crashed into the curb. Police also mentioned that there was moderate damage done to the bicycle during the accident.

Anybody with information about this accident has been encouraged to contact RPD to assist officers with their investigation. Callers are asked to use the non-emergency number (530) 225-4200.

Contacting a Personal Injury Law Firm

When police cannot ask the only person involved in an accident about the events that took place, they are liable to overlook critical evidence that could have a significant impact on a wrongful death case. Because of this, getting in touch with a skilled attorney with experience privately investigating accidents is crucial. By having an attorney investigate the crash, you can make sure that a thorough investigation that prioritizes your family’s right to compensation is being conducted.

Wrongful Death Damages

Families suffering after fatal car accidents can be impacted in many ways. First, the pain of suddenly losing a loved one can be immense, and coping with grief can take time and effort. However, many people cannot focus on processing their grief because of the pressing financial problems caused by their loss.

In many cases, losing a loved one also means losing your financial security, especially if your family member was the primary income earner in your household or performed valuable services like home repairs, childcare, cooking, or cleaning. Additionally, families are often left with medical bills for treatment given before their loved one passes away. Fortunately, all of these damages can be claimed in wrongful death cases.
