One Dies Following Accident Near Yreka

One person passed away following an accident near Yreka that occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. California Highway Patrol (CHP) released details regarding the incident one week later on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. So far, county officials have not released the identity of the decedent.  An investigation into causal factors of this tragic crash is reportedly being conducted by CHP.

Crash Information

The accident occurred just before 3:00 a.m. on Highway 97 northeast of the small community of Weed. At this time, Yreka CHP dispatch reportedly received an emergency call from the driver of the involved big rig. The driver indicated that he had been thrown from his bed in the truck’s cab when his vehicle was rear-ended.

According to police, the truck driver exited his vehicle to check on the scene and found that a silver Toyota Prius had rear-ended his trailer, resulting in an underride collision. The driver was reportedly trapped inside the Prius, which was pinned underneath the big rig’s trailer.

Response

CHP staff from the Mount Shasta, Dorris, and Yreka areas, as well as personnel from Cal Fire, all assisted with responding to the accident. Responders found the Prius driver with serious trauma and were able to extricate him from the wrecked vehicle. While paramedics did attempt to perform life-saving procedures, the man sadly lost his life on-site.

Investigation

While CHP officers are looking into the crash, they have not stated what factors could have been involved. Police have asked that anybody with information about the accident contact the Yreka CHP office at (530) 842-0530. Crashes like this one can be caused by a wide range of factors. These include factors outside of driver control like defective roads or malfunctioning auto parts.

Fatality accidents like this one are often very difficult for police to fully investigate. Because the only involved driver is not able to tell investigators their version of events, police may not uncover important evidence that could be a critical part of a wrongful death case. For this reason, it is vital to contact an experienced Yreka wrongful death lawyer who has the skill and resources to privately investigate the accident.

Recovering after Fatal Accidents

When a fatal accident happens, families can be put in a very hard situation. Dealing with the grief of suddenly losing a loved one can be overwhelming and many people feel shocked and unable to process what happened. During such a traumatic period, families should focus on doing what they can to care for themselves and seek support from people in their communities.

However, fatal crashes also often have major financial impacts. In many cases, the decedent is the main earner in their household and families are unsure how they will be able to pay bills without that source of income. In other cases, families relied on decedents to perform important services like childcare or cleaning that can be very expensive to replace.

Getting Help

In order to make sure that you and your family have financial stability during a very emotionally difficult time, the best thing to do is to get in touch with a wrongful death lawyer who can help you pursue fair compensation for these damages.

In cases that involve large commercial vehicles, it is especially important to contact a lawyer as soon as possible. This is because trucking companies usually act quickly and aggressively in order to avoid liability.
