Off-Duty Cop Saves Life After Folsom Crash

Off-Duty Cop Saves Life After Folsom Crash

On Sunday, January 20, 2019, an off-duty police officer saved a woman’s life after a serious car accident in Folsom. The crash involved two vehicles and happened in the morning near Folsom Lake.  According to reports, one woman was seriously injured in the crash. Her condition was critical after being revived, and she was taken to a hospital. On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the hospital reported that the woman is expected to recover. Additionally, investigators from the Folsom Police Department (FPD) are looking into what may have caused this accident to happen. I’d like to send my sympathy to the injured woman and her family while she is in the hospital following this terrible accident.

Crash Information

Jaie Sacco, a deputy with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, was off duty a few hours before his shift. He was driving on East Natoma Street when he saw a red Mazda drive past him. He said that he saw the car drive about a hundred yards ahead of him before it suddenly veered off to the right. The Mazda then overcorrected, and the driver lost control on a wet road. The Mazda hydroplaned into oncoming traffic lanes. After entering the wrong side of the road, the Mazda was T-boned by an SUV.

Rescue

Sacco told reporters that the Mazda was severely “crumpled up” after the crash. The Deputy pulled his car over and ran to the site of the wreck. Sacco said he was able to pry open the driver’s side door. He expected to find the driver there, but she was missing. He soon found her lying on the ground near the crash.

Sacco said that he felt her neck for a pulse, but could not find one. Sacco started to give the woman CPR right away. Just as he began CPR, another off-duty officer from the Elk Grove Police Department (EGPD) showed up and helped Sacco perform live saving procedures. After over four minutes of CPR, the woman’s pulse finally returned.

Investigation

As the investigation continues, FPD has not stated what factors they believe to have caused the crash. While rainy roads were a factor, various other causes may have been involved. Auto accidents such as this can be caused by things like auto product defects, medical issues, and more.

Recovering After a Crash

People injured in crashes often face a difficult road to recovery. Recovering from a crash can be physically painful as well as emotionally difficult. On top of this, people often need to pay for expensive surgeries, medicine, therapy, and more. These costs can be high, and many don’t know how they will be able to afford to recover. However, people who suffer injuries in car accidents can often claim payments to help cover these costs.
