Negligent Driver Caught on Tape Causing Accident

A negligent driver in Sacramento caused an accident that resulted in moderate injuries in the neighborhood of Oak Park on September 3. The accident was caught by a nearby surveillance camera as the car sped along San Carlos Way, raced through a stop sign and crashed into an SUV on 14th Avenue. Both vehicles then crashed into a home in the area. A spokesperson for the Sacramento Fire Department, Capt. Keith Wade reported that the accident happened around 2:47 in the morning. The Sacramento Police Department is in charge of the investigation surrounding the incident.

Accident Injuries

Four people riding in both of the vehicles involved in the collision suffered moderate injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. No one was injured inside the home.

Surveillance Video Records the Accident

Surveillance video of the accident clearly shows the negligent driver passing through the stop sign without even slowing down, ramming the SUV broadside and both vehicles crashing into the home. The entryway of the house was damaged in the collision. Authorities with the police department said that officers had been called to a domestic dispute in the area of Oak Park that night a short time before 3:00 a.m. This was when they discovered that two vehicles had crashed into the house. It is unknown whether the domestic dispute was a related incident.

What a Lawyer Can Do for You

It is crucial to prove the negligent driver was at fault for the accident. That is why our firm dispatches an investigative team to the accident scene. We look for any evidence that could be used to prove the reason the accident happened. We also review police reports for accuracy as well as video footage and interview witnesses. Once this data is accumulated, our legal team structures a strong case against the defendant.

Running a Red Light or Stop Sign

Passing through a red light or a traffic sign without stopping is a common cause of motor vehicle accidents. Commonly, this happens at intersections. All drivers are familiar with someone behaving in this reckless manner, and some are lucky enough to avoid a collision. Yet, deaths due to running a stop signal are at an all-time high, killing a minimum of two people daily. Some reasons this happens are:

  • Drivers are in a hurry: While being in a hurry is common today, every driver must ask themselves if the reward of arriving in a shorter amount of time is worth the risk of dying.
  • Reckless behavior: Reckless drivers often run red lights because they believe they will not be caught. Unfortunately for them, the best-case scenario is that they are found and not involved in a catastrophic accident.
  • Speeding: Drivers who speed are often unable to stop in time. This puts them in a dilemma. If they stop abruptly, they may cause a rear-end accident. However, if they pass through an intersection on a red light or after ignoring a stop sign, they may be hit by a vehicle that has the right of way.
  • Distracted driving: Drivers who are distracted by something else can run a red light. Such negligent drivers are often responsible for catastrophic injuries.
  • Drunk driving: Impaired drivers can be oblivious to the presence of a stop sign or red light since alcohol or drugs impair cognitive function.
  • Lack of visibility: Sometimes, a driver is unable to see a stop sign because it is hidden by foliage, and a red light may be functioning poorly. This is a problem with the city agency in charge of maintenance. If this causes a red light/stop sign accident, the government agency can be taken to task. This type of claim will have a different time limit in which it can be filed. Your attorney will ensure all documents are filed in time.
