Multiple Vehicle Crash on I-5 Causes Injury

Multiple Vehicle Crash on I-5 Causes Injury

An August 30 multiple vehicle crash along Interstate 5 resulted in a head injury to one person in this Sacramento accident. The accident occurred along northbound I-5 just south of the Del Paso Avenue off-ramp at about 9:49 in the morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It was originally reported as a two-vehicle accident. However, the report was amended to say there were five vehicles involved in the crash. One of the individuals who was involved in the accident reported a head injury and requested that emergency medical personnel be sent to the scene. The CHP is in charge of the investigation into the accident to determine how it happened and to assign fault. It is uncertain at this time whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

What an Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

Multiple vehicle accidents can lead to serious injury and death. While you are recovering or dealing with a death in your family, an experienced injury lawyer can help you obtain the financial compensation you deserve. Our firm does this by dispatching an investigative team to the accident site. There, they search for evidence, interview witnesses to the crash and obtain video footage depicting the accident. These can be found on traffic cameras or outside local businesses. Once this search is complete, we hand the data over to our legal team to be used to structure a strong case against the at-fault driver. This becomes invaluable in negotiations with the insurance company or is incorporated into a civil lawsuit.

Head Injuries in a Multiple Vehicle Crash

While not the only injury that results from a multiple-vehicle crash, head injuries are certainly one of the most serious. Although some head injuries such as a concussion can heal over time, others can cause life-long disabilities. For instance, some such as an intracranial bleed can render the person incapable of caring for themselves after treatment. In such cases, the costs are astronomical. Even related injuries such as cervical strain and sprain can lead to long-term problems with the neck area of the body.

Why Do Multiple Vehicle Crashes Happen?

There are many reasons that multiple vehicle crashes occur. Some are related to the stop and start type of driving seen on busy highways. In this environment, the space between the vehicles is small, and tailgating can happen. When this happens, a rear-end accident can occur. This pushes the car in front of the tailgating vehicle forward and into the car in front. Given the right circumstances, that vehicle can hit the one in front of it. If the speed is right, the impact can cause serious injuries. Aside from this, with increased speed of one of the vehicles in the chain, a car may be pushed out into another lane, colliding with yet another vehicle. In addition, a driver, seeing the disturbance, may try to get out of the way, hitting another vehicle. All of this happens quickly. Car fires are also possible. A fire on a crowded highway can spread and go from one vehicle to another.
