Mountain Lion Causes Major Clearlake Accident

A serious car accident in Lake county left nine people with injuries during the night of Friday, July 19, 2019. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident involved a mountain lion that had been crossing a local highway as well as two vehicles. Medical officials indicated that four of the nine injured individuals were seriously injured as a result of the incident, adding that all nine injured parties were taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Crash Details

The accident took place at around 10:30 p.m. on a section of Highway 29 a short distance north of the intersection at Soda Bay Road, otherwise known as Kits Corner. A 40-year-old woman from Kelseyville had been driving north on 29 in a Ford F-150 pickup truck when she struck the large cat. After striking the cat, the Ford reportedly swerved left and continued to slide into oncoming lanes at high speeds. The truck entered the path of a southbound Lexus RX300 and the two vehicles collided head-on. The collision reportedly caused major damage to both vehicles.

Response

Responders were called to the accident scene immediately. When they arrived, they discovered that the driver of the Ford, as well as two of her passengers, had suffered major trauma. All three were flown out to large hospitals in separate medical helicopters. The driver and one passenger were taken to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, and the other passenger was transported to the Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville. Three teenage passengers in the Ford were taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital by ground ambulance, two with moderate trauma and one with minor injuries.

The driver of the Lexus, a 71-year-old woman from Kelseyville, was also found with severe injuries and transported to the Vacaville Kaiser by medical helicopter. Two more occupants of the Lexus were left with minor injuries and transported to the St. Helena Hospital for care.

According to officials, the mountain lion was fatally injured during the incident.

Recovering After an Accident Injury

A serious accident injury is often a life-changing event. After suffering such an injury, many people are faced with a long and difficult road to recovery, and others are left with permanent symptoms that leave them wondering how they will be able to cope. For many crash survivors, their injuries make it difficult for them to continue working, which can make it even harder to cover the costs of surgeries, medicines, and physical therapy necessary for regaining your health.

These concerns can feel overwhelming, but injured parties can often get help by filing a personal injury claim and obtaining compensation from negligent parties and/or insurers in order to cover the cost of collision damages. Crash survivors can often claim payments for a wide variety of losses, including lost income, medical bills, pain and suffering, and more. To learn about what payments might be available to you, it is best to have a conversation with an experienced personal injury attorney in your area.
