Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Eureka Crash

Officers from the Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported an injury accident on Friday, February 15, 2019. The crash involved two vehicles, a small sedan, and a motorcycle. Reports stated that the motorcyclist was left with injuries that required treatment at a nearby hospital. Updates on the man’s condition have not been reported, but his injuries were not suspected to be life-threatening at the time of the crash. EPD says that they are conducting an accident investigation in order to find out what caused the collision.

Crash Details

Officers reported that the crash took place at about 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Pine and 14th Streets in Eureka. A woman driving a grey-colored sedan of unreported make and model was parked on the eastbound side of 14th Street between Summer and Pine. The driver told police that she checked her mirrors and pulled out slowly into traffic but felt something collide with her car. After feeling the collision, she looked out her window and saw that a motorcyclist had struck her vehicle. The cyclist was reportedly able to keep the bike upright and quickly pulled over to the side of the road.

Response

Emergency officials arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after it took place. Medics reported that the motorcyclist was found with serious injuries to his right leg. The man was placed on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Updates on his recovery have not been provided by hospital staff.

Leg Injuries

Leg injuries can be serious. Even in cases where the injury isn’t visibly severe such as with an open fracture or major burn, leg injuries can drastically affect people’s lives. Injuries such as torn tendons, fractured ankles, and others can mean losing mobility. Loss of mobility often results in no longer being able to enjoy daily activities, and many people are left unable to perform their job. If the injury is severe, people may also need help around the home with essential tasks like cleaning or cooking.

Leg injuries can also be difficult to recover from. In many cases, people need to pay for expensive surgeries and complete a long period of physical therapy to regain mobility. This process can be stressful and sometimes causes secondary injuries or mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

Recovering Damages

People who were injured by a negligent driver are often able to recover for their losses by filing personal injury claims. However, these claims can be complicated, and payments vary for each case. If you believe that you may have a viable personal injury claim, the best thing to do is to speak with an attorney to get their advice about your specific situation.
