Truck Driver Remains at Scene of Citrus Heights Crash

The truck driver who struck the motorcyclist stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with police in the investigation. Greenback Lane westbound was closed from Sunrise Boulevard to Arcadia Drive. The closure was expected to last a few hours while the investigation was conducted.

Investigation Ongoing Into Cause of Fatal Crash

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have factored in the crash. Anyone who witnessed the accident is being asked to call the police in Citrus Heights at (916) 727-5500. The investigation is ongoing.

Common Reasons for an Intersection Accident Involving a Motorcyclist

Intersections are the locations where around 40 percent of all accidents occur. Motorcyclists, bicycle riders, and pedestrians are the most vulnerable to severe injuries or fatalities. Reasons for these types of accidents caused by the driver of a motor vehicle include:

  • Speeding
  • Running a stop sign or red light
  • Intoxication
  • Fatigue
  • Distracted driving
  • Tailgating
  • Making a risky left or right turn
  • Making an illegal U-turn

Bringing a Wrongful Death Claim After a Fatal Accident

Family members of the deceased may be able to file a wrongful death claim if a reckless driver caused the Citrus Heights crash. It is intended to compensate the family for their losses due to the death. Immediate family members such as the spouse and decedent’s children may file, or another option is the executor of the deceased person’s estate.

Compensation Recovered in a Wrongful Death

A wrongful death claim could seek damages for funeral expenses and financial loss until retirement if the decedent worked. The family members can also be compensated for their pain and suffering and the spouse for loss of consortium. Since the family may have to pay for these services in the future, household assistance the decedent provided around the house can also be recovered.

Contacting an Injury Lawyer for Free Advice

Family members should consult an experienced wrongful death attorney to evaluate their case since these Citrus Heights crash claims can be complex. When filing a claim for wrongful death, a lawyer can assist them with understanding their rights and the legal process. The lawyer can also collect evidence to support their claim and negotiate on their behalf with the at-fault party’s insurer.
