Vehicle Experiences Run-Off-Road Accident Off Tyler Foote Road

A minor died in a single-vehicle run-off-road accident on October 12 near Nevada City. The collision occurred at about 9:10 a.m. when the driver of a Toyota pickup, identified as a Nevada City resident, age 32, exited Tyler Foote Road for unknown reasons, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The vehicle passed down an embankment and crashed into a pine tree, which caused it to overturn.

Minor Dies Following Run-Off-Road Accident

Emergency responders with the fire department extricated the minor passenger from the pickup and performed CPR. She was transported by helicopter to a Sacramento hospital in critical condition. The minor died later at the hospital. Her identity has not been released pending family notification by the county coroner’s office. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit the pickup after the run-off-road accident with minor injuries.

Fatal Collision Under Investigation to Determine Cause

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected by authorities as factoring into the cause of the fatal collision. Both the driver and minor were wearing seat restraints when the accident occurred. The accident is being investigated to determine what happened to cause the crash.

Run-Off-Road Accident Causes

Most of the time, a run-off-road accident is due to driver error such as fatigue, distracted driving or speeding. However, there are instances when this type of accident is because of negligence by another person or entity such as follows:

  • Roadway neglect: Roadway negligence can cause a vehicle to leave the roadway and crash. When a vehicle strikes a pothole, debris is in the roadway or other problems exist, it can easily go off the road and crash. If this is the cause, which is something a personal injury lawyer can determine, the government entity may be liable for any injuries or fatalities. Because the statute of limitations is only six months to make a claim against the government entity, enlisting the help of an injury lawyer may be a good move. In that way, you can ensure the paperwork is completed correctly and deadlines will be met.
  • Hit-and-run driver: Some run-off-road collisions can be caused by a driver who strikes another automobile and then flees the scene. An accident attorney can use investigators to determine whether another vehicle was present that caused the collision. This can be determined by checking area surveillance cameras and looking for paint smears and debris left by the fleeing driver. When that motorist is located, they can be held financially responsible for injuries or fatalities caused by the accident.
  • Defective auto parts: If a vehicle’s brakes fail, the steering wheel locks, a tire blowout occurs or other problems, it can lead to a run-off-road accident. This is why it is important to retain a vehicle after a collision so that it can be checked for defects. If a defect is found that caused the accident, the injured party or grieving family can file an auto product liability claim against the parts maker, manufacturer and others.
