Merced Pedestrian Accident Fatality

A Merced pedestrian accident fatality occurred on the evening of December 28 near 18th Street and G Street. A woman was walking in the area when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle at approximately 6:00 in the evening. The driver of the car involved reportedly fled the scene following the incident, leaving the woman behind to succumb to her injuries. Officials have identified the decedent as 50-year-old Natalia Wood of Merced.

I would like to send my thoughts and condolences to the loved ones of Ms. Wood while they are mourning their devastating loss.

Investigation of the Merced Pedestrian Accident Fatality

Few details are known about the hit and run accident. The vehicle involved in the incident was described as a small sedan that was either tan or gold in color according to witness accounts. Surveillance footage in the area appears to support those witness statements, but the license plate number was not visible. So far, the errant driver has not yet been apprehended.

Common Reasons for Pedestrian Accidents

A wide array of reasons can contribute to a pedestrian accident. Any instance of speeding, reckless driving, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can significantly increase the risk of a collision with a pedestrian. Moreover, lack of sleep can adversely affect a driver’s reaction time and vision. The same can be said of texting or talking on a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. Other factors that can come into play in a pedestrian collision include lack of marked crosswalks, inclement weather conditions, inadequate signage, and more.

Recourse in Hit and Run Accidents

When a pedestrian is injured or killed in a hit and run accident, the injured party or family of the decedent may need to turn to their own automobile insurance policy to cover damages incurred. Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection covers losses resulting from an accident with someone who has little to no insurance. Conversely, the coverage may also be used if a hit and run driver remains unidentified. Since filing a claim against this type of coverage is often difficult, retaining an experienced injury attorney can make the difference in protecting your right to fair compensation. Contacting a Merced Wrongful Death Lawyer

Pedestrian accidents are often caused by driver negligence and can result in devastating injuries or wrongful death. When a loved one is lost in this type of accident, a wrongful death claim may be brought by the family of the decedent to recover resultant losses. Working with an experienced Merced wrongful death lawyer can help during these difficult times. An attorney can help a family focus on grieving and healing without the worry of navigating a wrongful death action alone.
