According to the Stockton Police Department, a man was injured in a recent hit-and-run accident in south Stockton. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 22, 2023, at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Sutter Street in south Stockton, officials said.

A preliminary report by Stockton PD revealed that a 60-year-old man was walking home and crossing the street when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle. The motorist who crashed into the man, a father of two and grandfather, reportedly fled the incident site. This left the injured man in the poorly lit street and alone until a Stockton PD officer passed by and stopped.
The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His family said he has remained in critical condition in the ICU. A recent update from family members revealed that the man, Jose Lopez, 60, of Stockton, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. A GoFundMe page has been set up for his family.
