Details on the Driver Arrested for DUI After Car Accident in Ceres Area
Officers from the Ceres Police Department (Ceres PD) were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision involving three cars. Upon arrival, authorities located the driver of a 2001 GMC pickup sitting in the vehicle. The driver, a 61-year-old man from Modesto, allegedly showed signs of impairment.
A field sobriety test was conducted, and the GMC driver was arrested for driving under the influence. He was issued a citation after a breath test found his blood alcohol content (BAC) over four times the legal limit. He was later released to a sober family member. Additional information on the incident, including whether any parties were hurt in the crash, was not immediately available.
What You Should Know About Drunk Driving Accidents and Personal Injury Claims
Traffic collisions, particularly those that result in serious injuries, are life-changing events. Such occurrences may be compounded by anger and frustration when it is later determined that the at-fault party was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. After getting hurt in a DUI crash that was not your fault, it is easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed. This is especially true as you proceed with the insurance claims process and are met with difficult claims adjusters and the legal system.
Unfortunately, insurance companies, including your own, may take advantage of you and your vulnerable situation. Even if liability is evident on the part of the other party, including documentation of DUI in connection to the car accident, insurers may see an opportunity to devalue or deny your bodily injury claim and will take it. To protect yourself from this, you must retain legal counsel immediately.
An injury lawyer may help you in a few ways by using their experience, skills, and resources to help build a solid and compelling case on your behalf. The process generally entails conducting an independent investigation of the crash, determining the potential value of the personal injury claim from assessed damages, handle communications and negotiations with the insurance company, seeking punitive damages from the drunk driver, and filing a lawsuit in civil court if the insurer does not offer a fair settlement. You have one opportunity to be fairly compensated for your injuries and damages after a drunk driving accident. Therefore, hiring a lawyer immediately after a car accident is crucial.
