Breathing New Life Into Sunrise Mall

Citrus Heights residents are probably interested in the redevelopment plans for Sunrise Mall. Not only will it provide a variety of new shopping opportunities, but the redevelopment will also breathe new life into the area and increase business. Although Sunrise Mall is already one of the largest in the area, retail sales have declined over the years, and the mall has changed hands several times since it was opened in 1972. In 2018, it was purchased by the Namdar Realty Group, a privately held investment firm headquartered in Great Neck, New York.

Renovation Options Under Consideration for Sunrise Mall

Three options have been presented by a city hired consultant to redevelop the mall that ranges from smaller changes to a complete transformation. They include:

  • Central Park Plan: This plan promotes tearing down the property and rebuilding it to include a park-like area in the middle with a neighborhood retail area, residential section, employment anchors, a hotel, and an institutional section.
  • Mall Refresh Plan: Most of the buildings would be kept under this plan, but other spaces would be added, such as two hotels, an open space for events, and several employment/institutional areas.
  • 21st Century Main Street Plan: This plan, which seems to be the most popular and ambitious, would keep some stores and add more retail, restaurants, and entertainment. It would also include multi-family dwellings and several hotels.

Specifics have yet to be worked out, and community input is encouraged in the development of the new mall area. With the welcome addition of a revamp of Sunrise Mall, it can be expected to add to traffic congestion and an increase in accidents. When that happens, a personal injury lawyer from Citrus Heights can help an injured person get the compensation they deserve.

Personal Injury Accidents at Malls

Accidents are common at malls because of unseen dangers. However, the most common types of accidents include:

  • Staircases, escalators, and elevators: Poor maintenance, mechanical problems, and insufficient lighting can lead to an accident.
  • Overcrowding: Malls and stores are supposed to have plans for crowd control, so patrons don’t become injured if they are swarmed during a product launch, big sale, or on holidays. If the size of the crowds is not controlled, patrons can be injured.
  • Falling objects and loose cords: Boxes that are improperly stacked, merchandise on shelves, and other dangers such as a cord stretched out in an aisle, or loose carpeting can result in a slip and fall accident with injuries.
  • Lack of security: These days, good security and a readily apparent evacuation plan are necessary to keep patrons safe. If an incident occurs because of a lack of them, the mall or store may be held responsible.
  • Traffic collisions: Poorly planned entrances, exits, and parking lots can lead to accidents that cause serious injuries.
