Injured Motorcycle Rider Discovered Along Elkhorn Boulevard

A major injury accident happened in Sacramento involving a motorcycle rider on December 30. A call came into the California Highway Patrol (CHP) around 10:28 in the morning about a possible injured motorcyclist on Elkhorn Boulevard between Diablo Drive and I-80. Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders arrived to discover that the rider had suffered major injuries in an unknown manner.

Lanes two and three were blocked by the accident, and a tow truck was called to remove the motorcycle. It is unknown if another vehicle was involved in the major injury accident, and an investigation by the CHP is ongoing to determine that. The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries. The name of the rider has not been released.

Motorcycle Accident Injuries

Although the majority of major injury motorcycle accidents are caused by a negligent driver, government negligence may be a factor or cause of a crash. Because of their vulnerability riding on a two-wheeled vehicle as opposed to a motorist in a passenger car, serious injuries may be incurred in any type of collision. This can result in extended hospitalization, testing, the cost of prescription medications, and rehabilitation. In some cases, the person who has been injured may not be able to return to work and be permanently disabled. Covering the cost of medical care and lost time at work following a major injury can be financially draining. This is where the help of experienced injury attorneys come in to assist an injured rider to obtain the compensation that they deserve.

What Can Be Recovered in a Major Injury Accident

Personal injury claims cover much more than many people may realize. They can make the difference in whether the individual involved receives the medical care they need and to be reimbursed for the pain and suffering they experienced. An injury claim can be placed with the insurance company of the negligent party or be taken to court if the settlement offered is unsatisfactory.

It is the lawyer’s job to not only successfully negotiate a settlement but to gather the information that proves the injured person’s financial loss. Some of the areas covered by a personal injury claim include:

  • Medical expenses, including ambulance service, hospitalization, specialists and other physicians’ fees, etc. Even the cost of out of pocket expenses such as trips to a doctor’s appointment are recoverable.
  • Lost wages, including any bonuses or perks normally received on the job, are recoverable. If the injury is expected to continue into the future, that is factored into the claim. If the injured party cannot return to their previous job and has to take a lower wage, that amount is factored into the settlement.
  • Loss of consortium can be claimed if it applies. This is the personal relationship between spouses that is interfered with because of the injuries.
  • Loss of the enjoyment of life can be compensated. Accident injuries often interfere with the injured party’s daily life and prevent them from doing things they normally would. For example, a person who normally exercises at a gym, has hobbies or other areas of enjoyment they participate in, and cannot because of their injury, may claim fair compensation for the loss.
  • Emotional problems caused by the accident can be recovered. It isn’t unusual for emotional and psychological stress caused by an accident to affect an injured person’s life. This may include anxiety, sleeplessness or nightmares, and in extreme cases, post-traumatic stress disorder. Compensation is recoverable in these areas and is usually included in the award for pain and suffering.
  • Pain and suffering is another area where damages can be recovered. This is the recovery of damages for the actual pain and suffering because of the accident.
