Tractor-Trailer Involved in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on I-580

A Livermore fatal motorcycle crash happened on June 13 when it crashed on the interstate with a tractor-trailer. The accident happened at about 5:40 a.m. on Interstate 580 westbound near the North Livermore Avenue off-ramp, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic logs. Because of the crash, traffic was reported as backed up into San Joaquin County.

Lane-Splitting Rider Killed in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The motorcyclist was reportedly lane-splitting before the tractor-trailer struck them. Investigators with the CHP traffic collision unit are determining fault in the fatal motorcycle crash. After the family has received notification, the name of the deceased motorcyclist will be released by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.

Dangers of Driving Near a Tractor-Trailer

One of the primary dangers of driving near a tractor-trailer is the limited visibility for both the truck driver and the surrounding vehicles. Due to these vehicles’ sheer size and length, there are considerable blind spots, often called “no-zones,” where smaller vehicles can disappear from the truck driver’s view. This makes it challenging for the truck driver to change lanes or maneuver without risking a collision.

Additionally, tractor-trailers’ significant weight and momentum mean they require much longer distances to stop compared to regular vehicles, making sudden stops or evasive actions particularly hazardous. Furthermore, due to their elevated center of gravity, tractor-trailers are more susceptible to tipping over, especially during sharp turns or in adverse weather conditions, posing a great risk to nearby drivers and motorcyclists.

Filing for Wrongful Death After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident in California

Losing a loved one in a fatal motorcycle crash is a devastating experience, and pursuing compensation can be an overwhelming process during such a difficult time. This is where the experience and assistance of a Livermore wrongful death lawyer becomes of great help. In California, survivors of the deceased may be entitled to various forms of compensation through a wrongful death claim. The deceased’s spouse and children are the first in line to file the claim. If the deceased person was not married and had no children, the parents and siblings may file a claim.

Damages Recovered in a Wrongful Death Claim

Damages can include coverage for funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, and compensation for the emotional pain and suffering of family members. Loss of consortium, love, and affection can be claimed by the spouse. The family’s children may recover compensation for their loss of nurturing and parental guidance. It is crucial to understand the legal avenues available and seek professional guidance to navigate the complexities of filing a wrongful death lawsuit. Engaging an experienced attorney can help ensure that the survivors’ rights are protected and that they receive the compensation they deserve.
