Hit-and-Run Collision on Folsom Boulevard Injures Bicyclist

A bicyclist was injured in a hit-and-run accident in La Riviera on March 27. The accident happened at the intersection of Folsom Boulevard with Mayhew Road around 4:18 p.m. The bicycle rider was involved in a collision with a tow truck, which reportedly left the scene.

Bicyclist Suffers Head Injury in Crash with Hit-and-Run Driver

Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered the bicycle rider lying in the bike lane. The rider had suffered a head injury. Information was not released on the extent of the rider’s injury or whether they were taken to a hospital for additional care. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the cause of the hit-and-run accident and seeking the fleeing driver.

California Accidents in the Bicycle Lane

As the bicycle lane in California grows, so do serious accidents involving cyclists. In recent years, there have been numerous reports of fatal and near-fatal collisions between cars and bicycles on roads that are not equipped with bike lanes. Unfortunately, many drivers are unaware of the laws surrounding cycling on public roads and may not be as cautious as they should be when sharing the road with bicyclists. Types of negligence that lead to a bicycle accident are:

  • Distracted driving: Drivers who are distracted by their phones, reading, or other activities are more likely to cause bicycle accidents.
  • Speeding: Drivers who exceed the posted speed limit or drive too fast for conditions can be liable for cyclist injuries caused as a result of their speeding.
  • Intoxication: Drivers who are impaired by alcohol, drugs or both can be held accountable for bicycle accidents.
  • Failure to obey traffic laws: When drivers fail to follow the rules of the road, such as running a red light or stop sign, they can cause injuries to cyclists.

Obeying the Three-Foot Distance Rule With Bicyclists

California has a law called the Three Feet For Safety Act, which requires drivers to give bicyclists at least three feet of clearance when passing. This rule is intended to keep cyclists safe from collisions with cars and reduce the chances of serious injury or death. Drivers should take extra caution when approaching a cyclist on the road, giving them plenty of space before proceeding.

How a Lawyer Can Locate a Hit-and-Run Driver

After the accident, it is important to seek the advice of a qualified attorney immediately. An experienced lawyer can assist you with the necessary steps to file a claim for compensation and find the driver. Your attorney will review all available evidence, including any photographs or surveillance footage that may have captured the incident.

In addition to gathering this evidence, your attorney may contact local law enforcement officials and consult with private investigators who specialize in locating a fleeing driver. Hiring an attorney can be very helpful in finding out who was responsible for the accident. An experienced lawyer can use many tools to locate the driver and bring them to justice.
