Intersection Accident in Fair Oaks Reported by CHP

Accident at Sunrise Boulevard May Have Been Caused by Red Light Runner

Possible injuries were reported in a two-vehicle intersection accident in Fair Oaks on October 11. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring around 8:21 in the evening along southbound Sunrise Boulevard and Sunset Avenue between a Honda Civic and an Audi. According to a witness to the crash, one of the vehicles ran a red light and struck the other car in the intersection. The force of the collision caused one of the vehicles to end up facing in the wrong direction.

Additional Information About the Accident

All of the parties involved in the intersection accident were able to exit their vehicles, including three children. First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries. No information was provided on whether parties were treated at the scene and released or taken to a hospital for further assessment. The incident is being investigated by the CHP to discover how it happened and to assign fault.

An Intersection Accident Is One of the Most Common

Around 40 percent of all traffic collisions occur at crossroads. Almost all of them are caused by driver error or negligence. Even though drivers are often traveling at lower speeds when passing through an intersection, serious injuries and fatalities are common. A lawyer with experience in handling these types of crashes can help an injured party by obtaining for them the compensation they deserve to pay for their medical and other losses and their pain and suffering.

Driver Negligence in an Intersection

Intersections can be tricky to navigate when traffic is heavy because of the different vehicles converging in the same area. It is also complicated by pedestrians, bicycle riders, and motorcyclists who share the roadway. Types of driver negligence that can cause an intersection accident include:

  • Running a red light or stop sign is probably the most common cause of an accident in an intersection. Drivers who have the right of way usually are not looking for someone to break the law and strike their vehicle, but it happens.
  • Making a risky right turn leads to accidents. Drivers who are impatient may want to turn right but have an obstructed view because of larger vehicles on their left. Turning despite having a clear view can end up causing an accident when they are struck by an oncoming vehicle.
  • Turning left in front of oncoming traffic can cause an accident. When that left-turn arrow starts blinking, a driver may decide to risk a left turn even though other cars are coming toward them. Because it is difficult to judge another vehicle’s speed and distance, this can easily end up causing an intersection collision.

Investigating an Accident

It is necessary for a plaintiff to prove that negligence was involved in an accident that caused the injury and the accompanying financial damages. This is why we send our investigative team to the accident site. There, they look for clues as to why and how the accident occurred. In doing so, they interview witnesses and obtain video footage of the incident from traffic and other sources of surveillance cameras

Our investigators review the police report of the accident and check for inaccuracies and mistakes. They also use accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability. Once all this data is acquired, the investigators release it to our legal team for incorporation into a legal claim against the defendant.
