Injuries Reported in Stockton Multi-Vehicle Crash

Injuries were reported by officials after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 4 in Stockton on the afternoon of June 3, 2020. The car accident occurred on eastbound State Route 4 near the Filbert Street offramp. The incident involved four vehicles, including a red car, a Honda Civic, a silver Mercedes-Benz, and a black Chevrolet. An ambulance arrived on-site to assist at least one person injured in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The cause of the collision and the sequence of events leading up to it remain under investigation.

What Causes Car Accidents in California?

The facts and circumstances of a motor vehicle collision are critical to your personal injury claim. You should know what type of crash occurred and what caused it. Multi-vehicle accidents are more common on freeways. They can happen when a vehicle strikes the rear of another car, and a chain reaction happens and involves several drivers. Such collisions often result from:

  • Distracted Driving: Any distraction behind the wheel can lead to a crash. This may be from a careless motorist who continuously checks their phone, adjusts the radio, or looks at their navigation instead of maintaining their focus on the road.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Those who operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 percent or higher are considered to be driving under the influence (DUI). When a driver is intoxicated, they may have difficulty reasoning and processing information as well as experience slowed reaction times due to their level of impairment.
  • Failure to Yield: Everyone does not always have the right of way, and all drivers should understand that. When this is not kept in mind, motor vehicle collisions can occur. Obeying traffic signs and signals is essential for being a safe and responsible driver.
  • Speeding: California has strict laws on excessive speeding. Driving above the posted speed limit may increase the chances of a crash as well as the severity of injuries suffered in the event of a collision.

All of the reasons for car accidents mentioned above are preventable. Whether it is the driver speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, or driving while distracted, these are all situations where someone failed to exercise due care.
