Hit-and-Run Fatality Accident Occurs in North Highlands

Myrtle Avenue Fatality Accident Costs Life of Pedestrian

A fatal hit-and-run was reported in North Highlands on December 29. The Sacramento division of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the pedestrian was around Myrtle Avenue, where it crosses Auburn Boulevard, when a vehicle struck him. Moments later, another vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was lying on the road.

Two Vehicles Strike Pedestrian, and One Driver Flees the Scene

Although the driver who initially struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers, the second motorist kept going. The vehicle of the driver who fled the scene may be a silver-colored SUV, but the make and model is unknown. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fatal collision.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim in a Pedestrian Fatality Accident

Personal injury lawyers can file wrongful death lawsuits for families of pedestrians who are killed due to negligence in a fatality accident. It is possible for a negligent party to be held responsible if an accident fatality occurs as a result of their actions. It has been our privilege to be able to assist grieving families with wrongful death claims at our firm, and our attorneys are highly experienced in bringing justice in their cases.

Identifying Hit-and-Run Drivers

Investigation of a fatality accident caused by a fleeing driver has been part of our mission for a long time. We work with law enforcement to locate and hold liable the driver responsible for the accident. Our hearts go out to those who have lost a loved one in an accident involving a pedestrian. It is not right to put the burden of financial loss on the grieving family, and the driver should be held accountable for their actions. The following are some of the methods we use in our investigations:

  • To ensure our clients’ ability to recover compensation, we review police reports to ensure their accuracy.
  • As part of our investigation, our investigators collect physical evidence at the accident scene such as paint marks and dropped metal pieces or light parts. This type of evidence is useful when trying to identify a vehicle because paint colors and parts such as head and taillights are exclusive to specific makes and models.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed to show how the fatality occurred.
  • In order to obtain information about the vehicle and the driver, investigators speak with witnesses to the accident.
  • After using accident reconstruction techniques and obtaining surveillance video, we have a complete understanding of the crash.

Uninsured/Underinsured Accident Policies: Covering Wrongful Deaths

Unexpected financial burdens can be difficult to handle when a loved one is killed in a wrongful death accident, and the hit-and-run driver can’t be found. Such losses can be covered by an uninsured/underinsured auto insurance policy. Alternatively, if another family member has this insurance add-on but the deceased did not, that can be used instead. Rates remain the same.
