Hit-and-Run Collision in Redding Results in Major Injuries

On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, one person was left with critical injuries after a hit-and-run collision in Redding. The injured individual has been identified as a local 53-year-old man who had been using a motorized wheelchair at the time of the accident. Updates on his condition have not yet been reported by hospital staff. The Redding Police Department (RPD) is reportedly still searching for the missing motorist and vehicle.

Collision Details

RPD reports indicate that the accident happened at 11:44 p.m. at the intersection of California Street and Eureka Way in the downtown area of Redding. The pedestrian was using a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle of unreported make and model, which immediately fled the scene. Officers indicated that there were no accident witnesses and have not been able to provide descriptions of the vehicle or driver.

After the crash was reported, responders were rushed out to the scene. When they arrived, response officials found that the pedestrian had been critically injured. The man was placed on an ambulance and rushed to the Mercy Medical Center for immediate treatment.

Investigation

While RPD is searching for the missing motorist and vehicle, officers are collecting evidence from nearby security cameras and interviewing individuals who were in the area at the time of the collision. Additionally, officers have asked for public assistance with their investigation. Anybody with relevant information about the accident or the location of the driver is asked to reach out to the RPD Traffic Unit at (530) 245-6564.

Recovering from an Accident Injury

Car accidents involve a lot of force, and pedestrians are especially at-risk for suffering severe injuries. In many cases, pedestrians involved in car accidents suffer injuries that have a major impact on their lives. In many cases, the recovery process is complicated and can take years. With especially severe trauma, survivors may be left with health issues that affect them for the rest of their lives like chronic pain or impacted cognition.

Not only is recovering from these injuries a difficult task, but the necessary medical care can be very expensive. Often, crash survivors need to pay for multiple surgeries, medications, hospital stays, and more. Sadly, the accumulated hospital bills can leave people worried about their finances and future.

Recovering Compensation After a Hit-and-Run

After a hit-and-run crash, injured parties may be worried about how they will be able to claim compensation when there is no at-fault driver to hold accountable. While hit-and-run drivers are frequently found shortly after accidents happen, there are still ways for injured parties to pursue compensation even if the driver is never located.

This can be done by utilizing a part of your own insurance policy called “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.” However, this kind of coverage is an optional part of insurance policies in CA, and the amount of compensation available is dependent on your policy. Furthermore, insurers may not offer the full amount of payments that you deserve.

For these reasons, it’s very important that you get in touch with an expert attorney who can help you obtain the compensation you need to recover and move on with your life.
