Gridley Crash Fatally Injures Pedestrian

Gridley Crash Leaves Pedestrian Fatally Injured

One person was fatally injured during a Gridley crash that happened on Thursday, February 4, 2021. This accident was reported by the Chico area California Highway Patrol (CHP), and officers indicated that it involved a pedestrian and a single passenger vehicle. The decedent was identified as a 59-year-old man, but his name is currently being withheld by authorities of the Butte County Sheriff’s Department. No other individuals were injured during the accident.

Crash Information

According to CHP traffic information, the crash happened on Highway 99 close to the area of Pryde Avenue at around 9:28 p.m. The pedestrian was crossing the highway at around 9:30 p.m. At the same time, a 17-year-old was driving a vehicle of unreported make and model approaching the location. For unknown reasons, the vehicle struck the pedestrian inside of the highway. According to police, the driver did attempt to swerve away from the pedestrian prior to the crash.

Response

Responders were dispatched to the crash scene directly after CHP was notified regarding the crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered the pedestrian was critically injured. Tragically, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation

CHP reports that their investigators are looking into possible causes of this tragic pedestrian accident. So far, investigating police have only indicated that they do not believe either involved party was under the influence of any intoxicating substances.

Frequently, pedestrian accidents are more complicated than they appear and may have been caused by factors not under the control of the pedestrian or driver. For instance, the vehicle may have had malfunctioning parts that made it impossible to avoid a crash, or the roadway could have had improper signage or inadequate lighting. In these situations, government bodies and/or auto companies may share responsibility for the incident.

The Importance of Private Accident Investigations

Police investigating deadly accidents face a major challenge. Without being able to conduct an interview with the decedent, investigators are missing part of the story and might not uncover important evidence. Unfortunately, this often means that family members of the decedent cannot hold negligent parties financially responsible for their losses.

This is why it’s critical to have help from a Gridley wrongful death lawyer. An experienced lawyer will know how to conduct their own accident investigation in order to ensure all relevant evidence is uncovered.

Calling a Lawyer

It’s impossible to replace someone you love, and coping with grief after an accident can take a long time. However, families often are able to obtain payments that afford them financial security while they are grieving. The compensation available through wrongful death claims can provide families with money to cover lost income, funeral expenses, medical bills, and more.

To learn about what compensation could be available to your family, it’s best to call a local attorney as soon as you are able.
