Glenn County Crash

On Saturday, July 11, 2020, a child was fatally injured during a Glenn County crash. The accident occurred in the morning and involved a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer. The decedent has only been identified as an 11-year-old boy. In addition to the boy, a woman suffered major injuries, and two men received minor trauma. The collision remains under investigation.

Crash Details

The collision happened on Highway Interstate 5, a short distance to the south of County Road 60. California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that a semi-truck was traveling northbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned, blocking both northbound traffic lanes. A Toyota Tacoma SUV that had been traveling behind the truck was unable to avoid a collision and struck the wrecked big-rig head-on.

Response

Responders reaching the accident location found that the young boy was seriously hurt. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased on-site. A female passenger was reportedly transported to a local hospital via helicopter for emergency care. The driver of the SUV, a 49-year-old man from San Jose, as well as the truck driver, a 58-year-old man, reportedly sustained minor trauma but were both hospitalized.

Investigation

The northbound side of the highway remained closed to traffic for over eight hours while police responded to the accident and investigated the area for evidence. However, investigators haven’t yet reported what factors are suspected to have caused the crash. In many cases, collisions like this one are complicated and involve more than one factor. Often, these include non-driver causes like malfunctioning truck parts or dangerous roads.

Trucking Accidents and Quick Action

Families experiencing the tragedy of a fatal accident have a lot to deal with, and the process of coping with grief can be intense and often takes a long time. For this reason, it’s common that families will want to delay getting in touch with an injury lawyer. While it’s important to do everything you can to take care of yourself and your loved ones, it’s also critical to reach out to an attorney as soon as possible, especially with accidents involving commercial trucks.

Trucking companies are well aware of the risks of deadly accidents and are typically ready to begin building a legal defense right away. In many cases, the company will even dispatch their own team of legal experts to the accident site right after the crash happens so that they can take statements from witnesses and collect evidence. By doing so, they hope to avoid liability for the damages families have suffered. Calling a lawyer as soon as you are able to makes it so that your attorney can be effective as possible in holding these companies accountable.
