Woman Killed in Fresno Multi-Car Accident Identified as Cynthia Vang

A woman tragically died following a three-car accident in Fresno on Thursday, August 18, just several feet away from her house. She has been identified as 30-year-old Cynthia Vang of Fresno.

According to Fresno County officials, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a traffic accident call on Church Avenue between Hughes Avenue and West Avenue at around 3:15 pm. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found three vehicles involved in the crash, with Ms. Vang suffering severe injuries.

Details of the Fresno Three-Car Crash

Ms. Vang was a passenger in a Kia driven by her 31-year-old husband. Officials said Vang and her husband were traveling westbound on Church Avenue and had stopped on the roadway, waiting to make a left turn into their home. While yielding to oncoming vehicles, a 41-year-old man in a Cadillac Escalade reportedly failed to stop. He slammed into the back of the Kia, pushing the car into the lane of oncoming traffic and directly into the path of a GMC van driven by a 63-year-old man. The van crashed into the passenger side, where Ms. Vang was seated. She suffered significant injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, she was later pronounced dead. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Common Causes of Auto Accidents

Motor vehicle accidents remain one of our country’s leading causes of serious injuries and deaths. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 35,766 deadly car crashes occurred in the United States in 2020.

The leading causes of these collisions include:

  • Speeding
  • Drug use
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement Weather
  • Road conditions

Car Accident Liability In Fresno

All drivers have a duty of care to prevent accidents. Most rear-end crashes are due to drivers speeding or tailgating. According to California Vehicle Code 21703, motorists should not follow another car more closely than would be reasonable, given the current conditions of the road.

Numerous circumstances of the car crash can determine the liability of damages. In some cases, a thorough investigation can determine careless behavior. This includes recklessly turning or cutting in front of another car. Determining who is at fault for an accident can be defined by four basic levels:

  • Recklessness
  • Negligence
  • Strict liability
  • Intentional misconduct

In California, multiple drivers can be liable for an accident, which is why a thorough investigation is necessary after an auto accident. An accident attorney can also help you determine all your options, so you can recover the maximum settlement.
