Four-Vehicle Accident Kills Two Near Oroville

California Highway Patrol (CHP) has confirmed that two people lost their lives during a multiple vehicle accident that took place between Oroville and Chico on Friday, June 21, 2019. The accident reportedly involved four vehicles including a dump truck, a semi-truck, a white minivan, and a Chevy sedan. According to reports from police, the accident also left four more individuals with major injuries. Butte County officials have not yet identified the decedents and updates about the medical conditions of the severely injured individuals have not been provided. I would like to send my sympathies to the people who’ve suffered the loss of a loved one because of this tragic accident.

Crash Information

According to police, the accident happened at around 6:12 p.m. near the small community of Durham. CHP stated that a three-axle Volvo dump truck had been driving at about 55 miles per hour heading north on Highway 99. At the same time, a Chevy sedan ahead of the dump truck had been slowing down while approaching stopped traffic. The dump truck reportedly struck the Chevy from behind, pushing it into a Toyota Sienna. The Sienna was, in turn, pushed into an 18-wheel semi truck stopped at the stop light located at the Neal Road intersection.

Response

Emergency responders were dispatched to the site of the accident immediately after CHP received notification. Officials arriving at the accident scene found that seven people had suffered serious injuries. Two occupants of the Chevy, a man and a woman, were sadly unable to be treated and were declared deceased before they could be taken to a nearby hospital. A third occupant of the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman, was transported to the Enloe medical center for treatment of serious trauma after authorities extricated her from the wrecked vehicle.

The three remaining injured individuals were all occupants of the Toyota Sienna. They included a 63-year-old woman, a 19-year-old woman, and a 57-year-old man. All three were also taken to Enloe for emergency treatment of major injuries.

Investigation

CHP has stated that the investigation into the accident is ongoing. According to officials, the Valley Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is assisting with the investigation into possible causes of the fatal collision. Authorities have reported that they are attempting to determine whether or not driving under the influence was involved. Other common accident factors include driving while distracted, poor vehicle maintenance, medical issues, fatigue, and more.

Calling an Attorney

After serious car accidents, especially those involving vehicles owned by large companies such as commercial trucks and work vehicles, contacting an attorney early on can be critical in claiming the payments you deserve for the losses you and your family have suffered. While the emotional impact of a fatal crash can feel overwhelming, liable parties usually begin defending themselves right away and having an Oroville wrongful death lawyer on your side right away can prevent them from disclaiming responsibility.
