A fatal rollover crash near Collins Lake in Yuba County claimed the life of a driver on Wednesday night, January 21, 2026.
CHP reported the crash that occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. along Willow Glen Road, just north of Skyglen Drive. A man was traveling southbound in a Nissan Altima, then crossed onto the northbound lane, left the roadway, and collided with a concrete culvert. The Nissan Altima then rolled over as a result of the impact.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. While early reports suggested the vehicle may have caught fire, CHP later confirmed no fire occurred. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
CHP continues to investigate the collision, and it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
Rollover Crash Safety Considerations
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents, particularly on rural two-lane roads where speeds are higher and road shoulders may be unforgiving. These collisions often result in severe or fatal injuries, especially when occupants are not properly restrained.
Drivers can reduce the risk of serious injury by:
- Always wearing a seat belt, regardless of distance or road type
- Avoiding overcorrection when a vehicle drifts out of a lane
- Reducing speed on narrow or unfamiliar roadways
- Remaining alert to roadway edges, culverts, and fixed objects
Seat belt use is especially critical in rollover crashes, as it significantly reduces the risk of ejection and fatal injury.

In cases involving negligence, roadway hazards, or vehicle safety issues, families may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. An experienced California personal injury attorney can help investigate the crash, preserve critical evidence, and determine whether liability extends beyond the driver, including potential roadway design or maintenance issues.
