Fatal Pedestrian Accidents Modesto

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto pedestrian accident attorney. Two separate pedestrian accidents occurred within a six hour time frame during the early morning hours of Saturday, December 17, 2016. Sadly, both pedestrians died as a result of their injuries.

First Pedestrian Accident

The first pedestrian accident took place shortly after midnight. A motorist behind the wheel of their black Saturn was traveling westbound along Sylvan Avenue in the vicinity of McHenry Avenue in Modesto. For reasons that are not known, the driver of the black Saturn crashed into a pedestrian in the first lane moments before colliding into a light pole. Witnesses informed investigators that the driver, presumed to be of Hispanic descent, got out of their vehicle to look at the injured male pedestrian in the roadway. The man then got back inside his vehicle, reversed his vehicle over the pedestrian and drove westbound on Standiford Avenue. A witness reported that the same Saturn involved in the first pedestrian accident crashed into a parked vehicle at the 3600 block of Chippewa Street in Modesto. The Saturn became disabled due to the impact of the collision. According to police, the driver fled from the scene of both accidents and remains on the loose.

Second Pedestrian Accident

Approximately six hours after the first pedestrian accident, a man walking outside of a crosswalk in the vicinity of Sutter Avenue and Paradise Road in Modesto, was struck by a Honda driven by a 39-year-old woman. The woman initially pulled over to assist the injured male pedestrian but left the scene once emergency crews arrived. Authorities were able to get into contact with the motorist, however, it is unclear at this time whether the driver committed any crime or whether they will be charged with an offense.

Pedestrian Accident Victims Identified

The pedestrian involved in the first accident was identified as 50-year-old Nicholas Kliewer from Modesto. The pedestrian involved in the second accident was identified as 61-year-old Ronald Ramos also from Modesto. Both Kliewer and Ramos were pronounced deceased at the scene.

We extend our condolences to the family of the victims tragically killed in the two collisions.
