Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims Life at Mack Rd and Elsie Ave in South Sacramento

A fatal multi-vehicle crash claims life at Mack Rd and Elsie Ave when the traffic collision occurred Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2025, in South Sacramento as a vehicle ran a red light, triggering a multi-car incident that resulted in one fatality and injuries to two others, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:00 p.m. near the intersection of Mack Road and Elsie Avenue. Authorities reported that an SUV was speeding on Mack Road, running a red light, and hitting a vehicle.

Following the initial impact, the SUV overturned and struck a pedestrian who was standing on the center island at the intersection. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV then continued forward, sideswiping five additional vehicles before coming to rest on its roof.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. CHP investigators also confirmed that one person was ejected from the overturned SUV and may have been struck by another vehicle, contributing to the fatal outcome. Another individual involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and received medical care.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the collision, including whether alcohol or drugs were factors.

The Dangers of Red-Light Violations and High-Speed Driving

Red-light violations are among the most dangerous forms of traffic negligence, particularly at busy intersections. When combined with excessive speed, the likelihood of catastrophic injuries or fatalities increases significantly. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable in these scenarios, as they have little protection when struck by a vehicle that has lost control.

Drivers are reminded to slow down when approaching intersections, obey traffic signals, and remain alert for pedestrians who may be crossing or waiting in designated safety zones.

Wrongful Death Claims After Fatal Pedestrian Accidents

Surviving family members may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim when a loved one is killed by a negligent driver. These claims are intended to hold responsible parties accountable and to help families recover compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the profound loss of companionship and care.

Wrongful death cases involving pedestrian fatalities are often complex, especially when multiple vehicles are involved or when questions of fault arise. A thorough investigation, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and accident reconstruction may all be necessary to establish liability.

Why Legal Representation Is Critical After a Fatal Crash

Insurance companies often move quickly after fatal collisions to limit their exposure, sometimes before families fully understand their legal rights. Navigating a wrongful death or serious injury claim while grieving can be overwhelming without experienced legal guidance.

An attorney who focuses on fatal accident and pedestrian injury cases can manage communications with insurers, preserve critical evidence, and ensure that responsible parties are held accountable. Legal representation can also help families avoid costly mistakes that could impact their ability to recover full compensation.
