A pickup truck was traveling along Biola Avenue in the vicinity of Shields Avenue at about 2:00 pm. The truck entered the intersection in the direct path of an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the truck, resulting in a serious accident. The impact of the collision propelled the motorcycle and both occupants approximately 100 feet from the accident scene.
Was Anybody Injured?
A male rider and a female passenger were traveling on the motorcycle at the time of the collision. The female passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The male rider, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity has not yet been released due to pending notification of next-of-kin.
What Caused the Accident?
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Authorities generally take one to two weeks to process a Traffic Collision Report. According to officials, the pickup truck had a stop sign and the motorcyclist did not. Investigators suspect that speed may have played a role in the collision. Traffic reports are not always entirely accurate pertaining to fault. It is important, especially when a victim has suffered serious injuries or even death, to contact a seasoned Fresno car accident lawyer. An attorney with years of experience can investigate the scene of the collision and study the sequence of events leading up to the crash to properly determine liability.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
A recent Fresno County Accident Statistic Report revealed that approximately 148 motorcycle accidents occurred in 2016 alone. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycle crashes claimed the lives of 4,976 victims in 2015. The predominating cause of these accidents tend to result from the failure of drivers to detect and recognize motorcyclists in traffic. Motorcycle accidents are oftentimes the result of a motorist exercising bad driving habits such as distracted driving, drunk driving and reckless driving. It is crucial for motorists to properly clear an intersection before entering to avoid such collisions. Drivers are also obligated to share the road and be aware of motorcyclists lane-splitting in traffic. For more details, contact an experienced Fresno car accident lawyer.
