Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Near Modesto
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto wrongful death lawyer. A hit-and-run crash occurred near downtown Modesto on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 23, 2017. The collision, unfortunately, caused a Modesto woman to suffer fatal injuries.
Accident Details
A woman was driving her red Ford Mustang northbound along 7th Street in the vicinity of L Street. At the same time, a black Chevrolet SUV was traveling eastbound along L Street approaching 7th Street. The Chevrolet allegedly ran a red light and broadsided the driver’s side of the Ford. The driver and two passengers of the Chevrolet reportedly abandoned their vehicle and fled the accident scene on foot.
Was She Injured?
The woman in the red Mustang suffered major injuries and required immediate medical attention. She was transported to an area hospital where she later, sadly, succumbed to her injuries. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 66-year-old Gloria Pearl Hawkins from Modesto.

Hit-and-Run Crash Investigation
The black Chevrolet SUV involved in the crash was located at the scene. When officials ran reports on the involved vehicle, they discovered that it had been reported as stolen to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A news release by the Modesto Police Department indicated that the three suspects in the Chevrolet that fled on foot remain outstanding.
