Fatal Train Accident in Chico

Police say that one man lost his life in a train accident that took place in Chico on Saturday, May 18, 2019. The collision took place in the early morning on the western side of the city. According to officials from the Chico Police Department (CPD), the fatally injured man had been walking on the train tracks when he was struck. While there were 215 passengers on board the train when the accident happened, no other individuals suffered any physical trauma. Butte County authorities have not yet released the decedent’s identity pending the notification of his next-of-kin. My condolences are extended to the people who have tragically lost someone they love because of this accident.

Accident Details

The accident reportedly took place at 5:00 a.m. on the train tracks close to West Sacramento Avenue. An Amtrak train was traveling southbound and making preparations to stop at the Chico station located at the intersection of Orange and West Fifth Streets. An engineer who was operating the train at the time noticed a man lying on the tracks as the train navigated a slight curve in the tracks. The engineer reportedly attempted to stop the train before it reached the immobile man. However, the train was not able to stop early enough to avoid a collision.

An Amtrak conductor immediately called CPD to report the accident, and emergency officials were sent to respond. When responders arrived, they found that the injured man had suffered critical injuries and he was sadly declared deceased on-site.

Investigation

CPD has reported that they have officers at work investigating what may have caused this accident to happen. So far, no suspected factors have been mentioned. Whether or not the decedent was affiliated with Amtrak in any way has also not been reported so far.

Dealing with Fatal Accidents

After a fatal accident, families are often left feeling overwhelmed. It’s common for people to experience intense, confusing emotions that can make it difficult to keep up with the demands of daily life. During this time, it is important to take time to spend away in order to be with your loved ones and focus on going through the grieving process. However, the reality of fatal accidents is that families are often left with serious financial concerns that make it difficult to focus on healing. Many households struggle to pay for funeral costs while suffering a sudden loss of income after their loved one has passed away.

These concerns are very serious, but many families are able to get relief by seeking compensation through wrongful death claims. Payments from these claims can help families have the financial security they need to recover personally.
