Seeking Compensation in a Head-On Collision Case

A head-on collision may result in a wide array of injuries that range in severity. These are typically based on factors like the angle of impact, safety devices, and vehicle speed. Some common types of injuries that are commonly suffered in head-on collisions include head trauma, spinal cord injuries, lower extremity injuries, broken bones, chest trauma, and more. Such injuries may occur from a motor vehicle occupant making contact with the windshield, dashboard, steering wheel, and other equipment in the car. Unfortunately, these car accidents have the potential to cause fatal injuries to those involved.

The courts recognize that the loss of a loved one may result in financial and emotional hardship to surviving family members. When the loss of life was caused by a crash, the party that was responsible for that incident may be held accountable for covering the resulting damages. In the case of a motor vehicle accident, the insurance company representing the negligent motorist typically pays for the associated losses. If the driver was uninsured at the time of the collision or has insufficient coverage, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage may kick in based on the facts of the case.

When a family has lost a loved one due to a devastating car crash, economic and non-economic damages may be available to provide some form of relief. These may include the lost financial contribution of the decedent to the family household, costs of a funeral and burial, loss of companionship, mental anguish, and more. Punitive damages may be available in matters where there is egregious conduct involved. These may be awarded in traffic collision cases if the negligent motorist was excessively speeding or operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
