Main Street Intersection Collision Reported in Fair Oaks

A minor injury was reported in Fair Oaks on August 27 after an intersection collision between two vehicles occurred. It involved a Mercedes and a Dodge Ram, which partially blocked the intersection.

Additional Details About the Intersection Collision

One of the vehicles was leaking fluid, and members of the Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company arrived to handle the spill and check for injuries. A minor injury was reported in the intersection collision. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident to determine which driver was at fault.

Intersection Accidents

Intersections are the site of roughly 50 percent of all serious injury accidents. This is due to the complexity of the intersection and the convergence of cars, pedestrians, motorcyclists and bicyclists. In addition, intersection safety protocol relies on the forethought of those who enter. In short, it relies on trusting your fellow person. Unfortunately, not everyone is trustworthy. Some types of reckless behavior seen in an intersection are:

  • Red-light runners: Close to 56 percent of people report that they run a red light on occasion, according to the Federal Highway Administration. Non-parents and young drivers are more likely to do this. Red-light running causes nearly 1,000 deaths and approximately 90,000 injuries yearly. Red-light runners are acting illegally and are reckless.
  • Left-hand turns without looking carefully: Many major injuries result from a driver illegally making a left-hand turn at an intersection. It is essential that the driver check if another vehicle is already crossing the intersection before turning. Drivers who are inebriated have the hardest time making this determination since their cognitive abilities are damaged.
  • Making a right-hand turn without checking for a bicyclist: When turning right at an intersection, it is incumbent upon the driver to look carefully to see if a bicyclist or pedestrian is on their right. Many times, a quick check in the mirror is not adequate since the person may fall in your blind spot. Many drivers don’t check at all.
  • Speeding: Drivers who speed are unable to stop in time to avoid causing an accident. Drivers who speed also lose control of their vehicle.
  • Drinking and driving: Intoxicated drivers are unable to adequately judge distances, a catastrophic deficit in an intersection. While this inability affects those in other motor vehicles, it is catastrophic for motorcyclists who often appear to be going slower than they are.
  • Poor city maintenance of an intersection: The government agency responsible for intersection upkeep can be liable for an accident when their job is left undone. This includes pruning back overhanging tree limbs and bushes and ensuring that signage is in good order in terms of visibility. In addition, the timing and functionality of street lights and lane markings must be maintained. If the city agency fails in its responsibilities, a claim can be brought against them. This type of claim differs from other injury lawsuits by having a shorter time in which the lawsuit can be filed. Your injury lawyer will ensure that all documents are carefully prepared and filed on time.
